Airport Planner

Analyst PositionKimley-Horn is looking for an Analyst to join our Reston, VA office focusing on Aviation Planning. This is not a remote position.ResponsibilitiesSupport the development of aviation planning and strategy studies for state DOTs and airport clients, including:State aviation system plansAviation economic impact analysesAdvanced Air Mobility (AAM) planning initiativesAirport business plans, master plans, and Airport Layout Plans (ALPs)Conduct research, data collection, and analysis to inform planning recommendations and policy decisionsPrepare clear, concise, and well-structured technical reports, memoranda, and presentation materialsSupport project managers in organizing tasks, tracking deliverables, and ensuring timely completion of assignmentsCoordinate with internal team members and external stakeholders, including state aviation agencies, airport sponsors, and industry partnersDemonstrate strong follow-through by proactively closing the loop on assigned tasks and communicating status updatesContribute to a collaborative team environment while taking ownership of individual work productsApply GIS and other analytical tools (as applicable) to support planning and visualization effortsQualificationsA Planning Degree (Bachelors or Masters) from an accredited program in these majors:City and Regional PlanningUrban PlanningGeography/GISAviationTransportation PlanningOr Other Related Major0–2+ years of experience in aviation planning, transportation planning, or a related fieldStrong writing skills with the ability to develop clear, organized, and professional technical documents (writing sample required with application)Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, follow through on assignments, and meet deadlinesHighly organized with strong attention to detail and accountabilityStrong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlinesDetail-oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environmentStrong critical thinking and problem-solving skillsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Experience with GIS (ArcGIS or similar) is a plus, but not requiredAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, client-focused environmentWhy Kimley-Horn?At Kimley-Horn, we do things differently.
