Position Title: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Classification: Non-Exempt, Part-Time Reports To: Director & Assistant Director of Behavioral Health & Education Location: TURN Center – 4444 S. About the Behavioral Health and Education Department of BSCO BSCO’s Behavioral Health and Education Department supports the larger mission of Bright Star Community Outreach which exists to be a hub that addresses challenges in under-resourced, underserved, and underdeveloped communities by utilizing our Trauma and Training and Community Conversations and Collaborations Models.BSCO understands that mental wellness and educational success are deeply interwoven. Both in tandem, lead to better quality of life for children, youth and families. Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide comprehensive mental health care to children, adolescents, and adults. This role includes both psychotherapy and medication management, serving clients through community-based, school-based, and shelter referrals, including individuals with co-occurring substance use needs. This is a part-time position offering $65/hour for approximately 30 hours within-in a two-week period. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for children, youth, and adults Diagnose mental health and substance use disorders Develop and implement individualized treatment plans Provide psychotherapy (e.g., CBT, supportive therapy, trauma-informed care) Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications Collaborate with schools, community partners, and shelter programs to coordinate care Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation Participate in regular case consultations and interdisciplinary collaboration Attend required clinical check-ins (e.g., monthly) for case review and quality assurance Qualifications Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing with specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP) Current, active Illinois PMHNP license DEA license and prescriptive authority required Full Practice Authority preferred Candidates with full practice authority must still participate in regular (e.g., monthly) clinical check-ins with a Psychiatrist, Physician Assistant, or experienced Nurse Practitioner for collaboration and quality oversight If full practice authority is not held, must demonstrate an established collaborative agreement and ongoing, regular meetings with a supervising Psychiatrist in accordance with state requirements Experience working with children, adolescents, and adults Experience with community-based or school-based mental health services preferred Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders is a plus Skills & Competencies Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills Ability to provide both psychotherapy and medication management Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally responsive care Effective communication and collaboration skills Ability to work independently while maintaining appropriate clinical consultation Strong organizational and documentation skills Comfort working with diverse populations and community-based referrals Additional Requirements / Preferences Ability to maintain or access an independent Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system preferred Tail coverage (malpractice insurance) is encouraged Willingness to engage in community outreach and collaborate with partner organizations, including shelter-based services Work Schedule & Compensation Part-time: Approximately 30 hours within a two-week period Compensation: $65/hour Flexible scheduling based on client and program needs Some travel required Benefits Part-time employees are offered paid sick leave and paid time off in accordance with the Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance Bright Star Community Outreach is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment that reflects the community we serve.
