Seafood Assistant Department Manager

Job Description Additional Considerations: Night & Weekend Shifts Required. Asst. Seafood Service/Meat Manager – Non-Exempt, Seafood Department. Purpose: Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while assisting the Department Manager to present the freshest, highest quality products at a competitive retail price. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Offer prompt, friendly service to customers, including telephone orders, and assist them in locating products. Help shoppers by escorting them to items, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, and noting customer suggestions or requests. Work as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment. Maintain department standards, including merchandising, temperature control, and cleanliness. Assist the manager in writing advertisements, determining projections and actuals, scheduling employees, and preparing product for display and special orders. Cut meat and seafood properly and order products, set pricing, and control inventory. Inspect product freshness, rotate or replenish based on stale dates. Help plan specials and demonstrations. Train new employees. Resolve customer issues and maintain proper sanitation procedures. Follow company policies and dress/hygiene guidelines, report to work on time, and work within scheduled shifts. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities Assume management duties in the absentia of the Department Manager. Assist with inventory and other store areas as needed. Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Problem solving with multiple variables and limited standardization. Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages. Write original correspondence and follow technical manuals. Interact effectively with a variety of people. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent and food‑safety certification. One to three years of similar or related work experience. Physical Requirements Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly. Perform activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Visual requirements: vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with or without correction, depth perception, color vision and field of vision. Working Conditions Daily exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, mechanical hazards, cleaning chemicals, and electrical shock in a fast‑paced environment. Equipment Used Knives, slicers, steamers, pallet jack, scales, calculator, computer, phone, tenderizers, saw, grinder, Telexon ordering unit, and C.A.R.S. reordering system. Confidentiality Access to employee compensation, inventory reports, sales and profit sheets, and warehouse pricing. Financial Responsibility Responsibility for company assets, including equipment and merchandise. Contacts Daily interaction with customers, suppliers/vendors, and the general public.
