Director of Development

Meals from the Heartland (MFTH) Position Description Director of Development Reports to: Executive Director Directly Supervises: Development Staff, Grants Manager Status: Full-Time FLSA: Exempt Job Purpose: The Director of Development will be responsible for the overall institutional fundraising for the organization. This individual is further responsible for implementing a comprehensive development/outreach program that generates high levels of congregational, foundation, and corporate support and that meets/exceeds annual goals for philanthropic revenue. In collaboration with the Director of Individual Giving will oversee the community engagement efforts of the organization. Primary Responsibilities: Develop, manage, and execute the overall institutional fundraising strategy for MFTH, evaluating its success and providing recommendations for improvement. Work to identify and manage new and innovative funding sources complete with requisite contact information, focus areas, philanthropic philosophy, and past donation history. Build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders in our community. Manage the grant making effort in order to grow this development channel. Develop and maintain a grant-tracking database for efficient and effective use going forward. Manage the sales process by working directly with and giving coaching and support to the Development Manager and any Development Representatives. Work collaboratively and closely with the Director of Operations and Hunger Fight Managers to ensure efficient relationship building where cross-purposes might exist. Work closely with leadership to manage the business successfully through the EOS system. Manage and leverage the Foundation CRM/Grant request database with the exception of family foundations in Iowa. Supervise, manage, encourage and support the work product of the Marketing Manager involving other managers as needed depending on stream of responsibility. Embrace the MFTH mission, vision, and values and promote in all business engagements. Encourage and model good collaboration and communications with MFTH staff, board, volunteers, and donors. Stay abreast of developments in the fields of fundraising, communications, and marketing. Other management and administrative tasks as assigned. Technical expertise: The go-to individual for planned giving questions and resources. Constantly seeking and learning new donor approaches and advocacy outreaches. Written communication: A skilled communicator across all mediums. Can effectively convey our mission and vision to requisite audiences Team Player: Approachable and responsive to others’ needs. Minimum Skills and Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required, Masters is appreciated. Minimum of five years’ experience in a non-profit fundraising role with a proven track record of success. Experience with and highly proficient with Salesforce CRM and Raisers’ Edge donor management software or comparable customer relationship and donor management systems. CFRE, CAP, or similar industry designation preferred. Competence in standard word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Must possess high EQ skills. EOS experience helpful but not required. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Active in community development specific opportunities including membership in development organizations and participation in said organizations which may include presentations, leadership positions or mentoring arrangements. Accountability and Evaluation: This position is supervised by the Executive Director. A job review is conducted annually. Hours/week: 40 - 45 per week. Evening and weekend hours, as required.
