Job Title: Agency Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 14 weeks Shift: 3x11.5 Hours per Shift: 11.5 Experience: Minimum of two (2) years in Emergency Room License: Client RN License Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS (if applicable), TNCC (if applicable) Must-Have: - Emergency room experience - IV insertion and phlebotomy skills - Conscious sedation experience Description: The Agency Registered Nurse will provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to Emergency Department (ED) patients who have been admitted to Med/Surg and remain in the ED awaiting an inpatient bed. Duties include comprehensive patient assessment, medication administration, and monitoring of vital signs and changes in clinical condition. The RN will implement physician orders and individualized plans of care. Care coordination with the admitting Med/Surg team and other interdisciplinary providers is required. Patient and family education must be provided, along with timely documentation in the electronic medical record. The RN will monitor patients for clinical deterioration and promptly escalate changes in condition. Assistance with transfers to the appropriate inpatient unit will be part of the role. Ensuring continuity of care while patients remain in the ED is essential. The nurse is expected to maintain compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, and patient safety requirements. Additional required skills include comprehensive patient assessment, clinical triage, and recognition of changes in patient condition. Competencies include medication administration, IV therapy, peripheral IV insertion, phlebotomy, and specimen collection. Blood glucose monitoring, wound care, oxygen therapy, and management of both acute and chronic medical conditions are critical components of care. The RN must be proficient in patient safety, fall and aspiration precautions, and infection prevention. Pain assessment and management, as well as escalation of clinical deterioration, including rapid response activation when indicated, are necessary skills. Care coordination, patient and family education, EMR/Epic documentation, prioritization, and effective communication with physicians and interdisciplinary staff are required. The nurse must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced ED environment while managing multiple admitted patients awaiting inpatient placement.
