Credit Underwriter II - Commercial Real Estate Banking

Job Description This position is responsible for the delivery of integrated credit solutions to clients and ongoing portfolio management. Responsibilities include underwriting and negotiating new transactions, partnering with client-facing teammates to consult on sales opportunities, and providing product expertise to deliver effective client solutions. The role also requires monitoring client portfolios, ensuring accurate analysis of financial statements, assigning risk ratings, and conducting required client reviews. This role performs deal analysis, prepares deal justification, and processes approvals for Commercial Real Estate credit transactions. It underwrites aspects of credit transactions such as construction debt, term debt, and tax credit equity, modifies existing facilities, and advises the Commercial Real Estate Banking portfolio group on post-closing credit actions. Driving operational excellence and influencing leaders, peers, and clients is also a key expectation. Internal employees who are currently working from home are still eligible to apply. However, if selected for the role, you may be required to work onsite in accordance with the workplace excellence policy. Responsibilities Evaluate new end-user credit opportunities, identify and assess risks, and identify mitigating factors. Partner with client-facing teammates to consult on sales opportunities and provide product expertise. Underwrite new transactions, analyze credit risk, negotiate and close deals, adhering to internal policy and regulatory requirements. Structure terms of a lease/loan, including pricing, rates, payment, term, and collateral. Manage the credit process for a portfolio of clients, review financial statements, assess compliance with covenants, confirm risk ratings, and recommend changes. Lead underwriting of secured and unsecured transactions for Commercial Real Estate clients, including construction and term debt, tax credit equity, corporate revolvers, bridge financing, agency warehouse lines, and subscription lines. Perform due diligence, prepare approval request documents, obtain final loan approval, and participate in loan closing. Collaborate with client, coverage team, and product partners to facilitate timely, client-centric loan closings. Lead end-to-end process for loan modifications and extensions on existing loans. Complete Scheduled Exposure Reviews (SERs) and Risk Rating Scorecards for adversely rated loans and present SERs at quarterly meetings. Required Qualifications 1-3 years in a Commercial Real Estate credit-related role with risk assessment experience. Experience in loan structuring, financial analysis, underwriting, and deal structuring for borrowers. Strong negotiation and communication skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to analyze, interpret, and negotiate third-party documentation. Ability to identify trends and emerging risks in underwriting and client selection. Strong knowledge of loan and collateral documentation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Desired Qualifications 5+ years in a Commercial Real Estate credit role. Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
