HHSC is comprised of ten psychiatric hospitals, two youth residential treatment facilities, and thirteen state supported living centers. The psychiatric hospitals are a hub of excellence for forensic mental health and complex psychiatric care, with all facilities accredited by The Joint Commission. They provide state-of-the-art treatment that is recovery-oriented and science-based. Responsibilities The Training Specialist II performs routine (journey-level) training work. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, conducting, and evaluating training programs for the state hospital program area; training new employees during New Employee Orientation (NEO); conducting refresher training; monitoring training compliance; maintaining a training database; and generating reports. Specific tasks include: Plan, organize, and conduct training programs, in group or online formats; develop curriculum specific to the program area. Evaluate training programs through competency assessments (exams or demonstrations). Assist in analyzing training content for accessibility to fit patient needs. Train new employees during NEO and conduct refresher training as needed. Maintain training records, notify staff of training day options, and coordinate with FCTD for mandatory trainings (i-Learns, TIPS, CPR). Prepare new employee information manuals and provide New Hire Orientation during Pre-Service Training (PST). Maintain training databases, generate reports on compliance and due dates, and ensure proper attendance records. Participate in program meetings and hospital-wide performance improvement activities; ensure compliance with TJC, CMS, TAC, HHSC rules and regulations. Qualifications and Requirements Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of patient care techniques and treatment, therapy, and developmental programs. Knowledge of training procedures/techniques. Skills in preparing training classes and using computer-based tools (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Clinical skills in recording vital signs, use of mechanical lifts, and ADLs. Skills in maintaining records and databases; ability to work in team and independently; strong written and oral communication across diverse audiences. Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications Certification in CPR, First Aid, and TIPS preferred; certification must occur within 6 months of employment. Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it within 90 days of hire; out-of-state license requires driving record from issuing state. Initial Screening Criteria Combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation or GED, plus 18 months of direct patient care experience. 18 months of experience in training work. Additional Information Applicants must pass fingerprint background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks (CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, LEIE). Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service. Applicants must be at least 18; Waco and Terrell Center for Youth applicants must be 21. Flexibility in work hours; overtime and extended hours may be required. HHSC immunization policy compliance; vaccination required or protective measures if not immunized against influenza. Telework may be eligible depending on policies and supervisor needs.
