Manager Clinical - Inpatient Behavior Health and Inpatient Acute Rehab

Major Responsibilities Quality Leads hospital committees or task forces related to patient care quality improvement initiatives. Facilitates evidence‑based practice changes recommended by the unit council and other shared governance patient care committees via provision of appropriate management guidance and support. Ensures compliance to regulatory standards (Accrediting Organization; IDPH; CBOH; OSHA; etc). Analyzes monthly performance outcomes and implements improvement action plans in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Specialist and unit council members. Develops, implements, evaluates, and upholds unit‑based standards of nursing practice to assure quality patient care in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Specialist and Medical Director as appropriate to the department. Works with the patient care area team to develop a continuous quality improvement program in accordance with the hospital performance improvement program. Works toward improvement of CMS core measures and other evidence‑based quality care compliance with a zero‑defect philosophy in providing appropriate care to all patients. Facilitates and supports quality care improvement project implementations driven by the unit council and shared governance structure. Communicates quality assurance and performance improvement outcomes to the team while mentoring associates in CQI philosophy and processes. Implements a minimum of one departmental process improvement per year. Demonstrates the three Behavior‑Based Expectations (BBEs) of Commit to Quality, Critical Thinking, and Communicate Clearly, and the associated tools. Works with Medical Staff to integrate medical standards to ensure provision of quality patient care. Assists in patient care activities when needed. In all actions with patients and families, demonstrates age‑appropriate behaviors. Service Drives customer satisfaction strategies for the department in alignment with the system vision and is directly accountable for results as measured by the experience survey tool. Reviews unit‑level satisfaction results and coaches the unit council and team through implementation of action plans based on trends to achieve defined goals. Conducts daily rounds in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Specialist to assess service levels and perception of patients and family members via interviews. Holds associates accountable for exhibiting service breakthrough and patient safety behaviors with zero tolerance for deviation. Ensures compliance with all regulatory/safety standards to maximize the customer environment. Responds to and resolves patient complaints in a timely fashion utilizing service recovery strategies. Develops a partnership with Medical Directors of the unit(s) to establish goals, create plans to achieve those goals, and monitor outcomes. Develops professional relationships with medical staff to meet their needs and ensure patient satisfaction. Serves as a role model for all customer satisfaction initiative planning, communications, and service recovery strategies. Coaches associates and reinforces use of the BBEs and safety tools to reduce errors related to patient safety. People Serves as unit’s Chief Retention Officer to develop, implement, and evaluate retention strategies. Utilizes appropriate planning, communication, coaching, and mentoring skills to support high retention rates. Manages high‑risk associate populations prone to turnover, actively addressing turnover potentials. Creates a supportive environment for new graduates onboarding via effective management of the RN Residency accountabilities. Evaluates all associates at least yearly through a performance development process. Works with the Clinical Nurse Specialist to improve clinical competence skills and introduce new techniques. Employs meaningful delegation to enhance team performance. Identifies and mentors future leaders focusing on quality care, business strategy, and key results areas. Provides counseling, direction, and appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary. Actively supports and encourages professional advancement, aiming for specialty certifications and promotions. Manages opportunities for continuing education hours for certifications and maintenance levels. Celebrates accomplishments and recognizes achievements. Participates in hospital committees and projects, delegating assignments appropriately. Manages own learning needs through participation in committees and projects. Maintains active membership in a professional organization. Demonstrates current knowledge of federal and state legislative issues. Serves as an instructor for Culture of Safety at least twice annually. Physician Partnership Manages professional relationships with key physician staff to maintain an excellent nursing image. Collaborates with Medical Directors to establish unit goals, create plans, and monitor outcomes for clinical quality and satisfaction. Identifies and corrects safety issues on the assigned unit in collaboration with the clinical manager and medical director. Growth Communicates and collaborates effectively with physicians, nurses, directors, and other healthcare team members to assure high‑quality care. Collaborates with the director to establish new processes or product lines improving quality, satisfaction, or productivity. Works with the Clinical Nurse Specialist to develop required educational and competency plans. Performs proactive risk assessment for safety implications of new services. Finance Aware of hospital budget responsibilities, ensuring stewardship of resources and meeting budgetary goals. Responsible for day‑to‑day operational efficiency and progressive productivity improvement. Establishes staffing requirements and determines appropriate utilization of human resources. Maintains FTE and position control with budgetary guidelines and manages vacancies. Utilizes associates at identified competency levels per state law, hospital policy, and regulatory agencies. Provides feedback and reports on supplemental staff utilization. Completes budget variance reports monthly and develops appropriate action plans. Administers the compensation program within defined expectations. Reinforces inventory systems, monitors processes, and makes changes when appropriate. Assesses patient safety impact when evaluating new products and includes analysis in recommendations. Develops capital equipment plans, monitors charge master updates, and documents cost savings. Monitors unit LOS and drives action plans to achieve hospital and unit goals. Reviews unit processes and creates action plans for improvement. Creates and uses monitoring tools to assess financial effectiveness of unit work process changes. Licensure Nurse, Registered (RN) Education/Experience Required Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Five years of experience in a specialty area. Management development training with progressive supervisory assignments. BS with MSN or BSN. Management experience of 2–3 years. Board Certification within two years of hire. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Ability to live the values of the organization. Appropriate clinical skills. Ability to cooperate well with others. Basic management skills. Team‑building skills. Communication skills. Current state licensure. CPR certification. Membership in a specialty organization. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Resilience and flexibility to adapt to a changing environment. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life‑threatening diseases. Travel within the local area. Variable work hours depending on current projects. 24/7 accountability; must be available to respond to changing needs. Position may be on call via pager and require unusual hours.
