Associate Attorney

Position: Associate Attorney Location: Syracuse, New York Practice Group: General Liability Position Overview Lydecker is seeking an associate attorney with 2+ years of experience for its Syracuse, New York office. The applicant should be admitted to practice in NY, and dual NJ/NY admission is a plus. The firm provides extensive training to new associates. Under the supervision of a partner, the associate will handle a variety of cases, including the defense of casualty, personal injury, general liability, professional liability, and employment matters. This is a hybrid position. Job Requirements NY bar license in good standing. Minimum of a JD from an ABA‑approved law school. 2+ years of civil defense litigation experience, preferably in General liability, Labor and Employment, Property and Causality, or any insurance defense litigation. Experience working on up to 15+ cases simultaneously, attending and defending depositions, taking depositions, appearing in court, drafting motions and discovery; mediation and trial experience a plus but not required. Basic computer skills, including internet, spreadsheet, and word processing; Microsoft products preferred; ability to type and operate office equipment. Self‑motivated, self‑starter, able to work independently, and possess strong client communication skills. Oral communication: speaks clearly and persuasively, listens, clarifies, responds well, and participates in meetings. Written communication: writes clearly and informatively; edits for spelling and grammar; varies style to meet needs; presents numerical data effectively; reads and interprets written information. Temperament: works with little supervision, prioritizes, anticipates needs, and handles occasional pressure and short deadlines. Ethics: maintains client and firm confidentiality and implements general ethical rules applicable to lawyers. Job Responsibilities Willing and able to bill. Draft, review, and respond to petitions/complaints, motions, and written discovery. Attend hearings and meetings with clients when requested. Prepare for and attend depositions.
