Research Assistant

The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) seeks a Research Technician to support field and laboratory research in the Coastal Biogeochemistry Lab examining mangrove encroachment and ecosystem change in Louisiana's coastal wetlands. Based at the DeFelice Marine Center in Cocodrie, the technician will coordinate field sampling, process environmental samples, maintain scientific instrumentation, oversee undergraduate assistants, and participate in outreach initiatives. This entry‑level position reports to Dr. Havalend Steinmuller and offers opportunities for hands‑on marine science research and coastal resilience work. Key Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Biogeochemistry, Coastal/Marine Science, Oceanography, Chemistry, or related field Valid driver's license and ability to lift 40 pounds for extended field work in hot, humid conditions Experience or willingness to obtain skills to operate and trailer LUMCON small vessels Proficiency with data management and familiarity with statistical analysis software (R preferred) Experience with laboratory instrumentation such as gas chromatographs, elemental analyzers, and spectrophotometers (preferred) Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in outdoor and water environments #J-18808-Ljbffr
