Design Engineer I

Responsibilities Creatively design field repairs for truss components in accordance with acceptable engineering principles and judgment. Design truss components based on specified parameters from customers using engineering and building codes. Discuss design modifications and review design methodologies with customers. Assist, train, and counsel customers in troubleshooting issues and solving design problems. Review results of truss design software for accuracy and collaborate with engineers and software development team. Collaborate with engineers, architects and building officials on customer component design projects. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required. Equivalent combination of experience and education that clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions; may substitute on a year for year basis. Up to 1 year of related experience required. Ability to perform technical skills including algebra, trigonometry, geometry, basic calculus, physics, statistics, and strength of materials, structural analysis. Ability to read and understand prints and schematics. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) – any state board preferred. Soft Skills Perform work accurately and thoroughly. Attend to, convey, and understand the comments and questions of others. Have solid engineering/technical skills with attention to detail. Maintain an outstanding safety record and follow all safety policies and procedures. Demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and monitor own work to ensure quality. Apply feedback to improve performance and look for ways to improve and promote quality. Meet productivity standards without diminishing quality of work. Work to keep waste down and complete work in a timely manner. Take responsibility for own action and follow instructions. Readily volunteer and undertake self‑development activities. Seek increased responsibilities and take independent action. Ask for and offer assistance whenever needed. Interact professionally with co‑workers, vendors and customers. Additional Requirements 5% domestic travel as necessary. Physical Demands This role is performed in an office environment where a computer, telephone and other office equipment are used as needed to perform the duties of the role.
