Position Overview Silco is seeking a dedicated candidate with strong work ethic to enter our ranks as a Fire Protection Technician. They will assist in conducting comprehensive inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarms systems and sprinklers under the supervision of experienced technicians. This role is designed to provide hands‑on training and development in fire protection systems, preparing the trainee for a career as a certified Fire Protection Technician. Responsibilities Inspection & Testing: Assist in the inspection and testing of fire alarm systems, including control panels, detectors, and notification devices, ensuring compliance with NFPA codes and local regulations. Participate in the inspection and testing of sprinkler systems, including valves, pumps, and sprinkler heads, documenting findings and reporting discrepancies. Perform inspections and testing of pre‑engineered and engineered systems, including initiating devices, control heads, panels, links, and other devices. Use specialized tools and equipment to conduct performance tests and troubleshoot system issues. Maintenance & Repairs: Support the maintenance and repair of fire alarm and sprinkler systems, including replacing components and making necessary adjustments to ensure systems operate efficiently. Assist in diagnosing and repairing system malfunctions, under the guidance of senior technicians, ensuring systems are restored to full functionality. Documentation & Reporting: Complete inspection reports, detailing system status, deficiencies, and any corrective actions taken. Maintain accurate records of all inspections, tests, maintenance activities, and repairs, ensuring documentation meets industry standards and company policies. Training & Development: Participate in ongoing training programs to enhance technical knowledge and skills in fire protection systems, including manufacturer‑specific training and certification courses. Shadow senior technicians during complex inspections and repairs to gain practical experience and knowledge. Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and others. Ensure all work complies with applicable fire safety codes, regulations, and industry standards. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical installation, low voltage, and repair. Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and specifications. Proficiency with basic hand and power tools. High School Diploma or GED required. Comfortable working at heights and in various weather conditions. Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to effectively diagnose and resolve technical issues. Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality workmanship. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required. Physical Requirements Must be able to climb ladders, use lifts, and work at various heights. Able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds as needed. Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching throughout the workday. Must have good hand‑eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling small components and tools. Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment. Must be able to work in confined spaces or outdoor environments as needed. Requires occasional pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead. Must be able to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Capable of driving company vehicles and transporting equipment or materials when needed. Ability to remain alert and focused while performing detailed or repetitive tasks. Compensation Compensation is based on experience, tenure, and individual performance. Inspectors and service team members have the potential to earn at highly competitive rates.
