Pediatric - Certified Medical Assistant (Bilingual Spanish)

Description The Certified Medical Assistant performs various office and clinical duties to keep the Pediatric Department at HOPE Clinic running efficiently. They work directly with healthcare practice staff to collect test samples, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures to patients, and assist in basic examinations under the direction of the licensed healthcare provider. They are an integral part of the clinical teams across all medical specialties offered by HOPE Clinic. Position Title Certified Medical Assistant Department Pediatrics Location HOPE Clinic Reports To Medical Assistant Team Lead and/or Site Manager/Clinical Back Office Supervisor Education High School diploma or GED. Associate’s degree preferred. Work Experience 2 years or more in healthcare preferred. Salary Range $15.00-$18.00/hour FLSA Status Hourly – Non-Exempt Position Type Full-Time Position Requirements Completion of a Medical Assistant training program is required. CMA or RMA certification is required or must be obtained within a 3‑month probationary period. Language Fluent in English. Bilingual in English and Spanish, Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, or other languages is required. Job Summary Certified Medical Assistants perform both front‑desk and clinical duties to support the pediatric team. They assist in patient intake, record keeping, basic examinations, laboratory and diagnostic procedures, immunizations, and patient education. They collaborate with other clinical departments, maintain supplies, and support clinic operations. Major Duties & Responsibilities Competency in front‑desk, eligibility, and checkout procedures; Efficient triage of pediatric patients, including rooming and accurate EMR documentation; Accurate pediatric measurements for newborns (length, weight, FOC), hearing tests, eye exams, medication logging and updating, vital signs, vaccine record updates in EMR and ImmTrac2; Assess patient appointment needs and identify reason for visit; Assist in examination and procedures under provider supervision; Familiar with medical terminology and supplies for provider preparation; Encourage patients to provide appropriate documentation for vaccines or other medical records at first visit; Provide treatments as ordered such as aerosol treatments, immunizations, and injections; Assess medical and health literacy needs and provide education as directed by provider; Discharge patients with documentation, provider instructions, and schedule follow‑up appointments; follow up on no‑show appointments; Provide education and instructions on lab and diagnostic results, medication refills by telephone and in person; Perform laboratory and diagnostic procedures such as ear lavage, newborn PKU; urinary catheterization experience desired but not required; Apply vaccine schedules per CDC recommendations based on doctor’s order; Experience with ImmTrac2, Eclinicalworks, TVFC Program or ability to learn them quickly; Provide translation assistance as needed; Triage patients in person and over the telephone; Answer telephone calls and messages within the same day; Keep patient exam rooms and nursing station stocked and organized; Order medical supplies based on inventory needs; Review provider schedule to ensure patient flow; Navigate medical referrals weekly as assigned by provider; Work with other clinical departments to ensure adequate MA coverage; Participate in performance improvement activities, staff trainings, and weekly team huddles; Report errors or issues promptly to supervisor; Maintain security of medical records and patient health information per HIPAA standards; Scan medical records, releases, and disclosures daily; Attend community engagement activities and clinic events as needed; Perform other duties as assigned to support HOPE Clinic’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Qualification Requirements Minimum of two years in health education, patient navigation, or health clinic assistance preferred; CMA or RMA required or willingness to obtain within 3 months; Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA standards of privacy and confidentiality; Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet use; Ability to use basic office equipment (computer, copier); Strong written and oral communication skills; Detail oriented and able to handle multitasking; Team player with excellent customer service skills; Ability to handle multiple tasks, complexity, and diverse patient needs; Insurance verification, pre‑authorizations, and specialist referral navigation experience preferred. Education and/or Experience High School diploma or GED is required; Associate’s Degree preferred. Completion of a Medical Assistant training program is required. Experience as a Medical Assistant preferred. Other Skills and Abilities Bilingual (Vietnamese, Chinese, Burmese, Arabic, Spanish or other languages with English) required; Above-average language ability and public speaking/writing skills; Willingness to work in different departments and/or travel to satellite sites for coverage; Valid Texas driver’s license and reliable transportation. #J-18808-Ljbffr
