Description Community Action provides a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for young children. As a Teacher, you will plan, prepare, and implement classroom activities, facilitate parent engagement, supervise staff and volunteers, and manage the day‑to‑day operation of the center. Position Summary The Teacher plans, prepares, and implements all activities for an assigned classroom. The role includes facilitating parent engagement through conferences and meetings, supervising, scheduling, training, and evaluating staff and volunteers, and providing leadership in the classroom and the center. In the absence of the supervisor, the Teacher manages day‑to‑day operations and maintenance of the center, ensuring program quality. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plans, prepares, and implements classroom activities and field trips; introduces new modules to the program; uses classroom outcome reports to guide strategies; writes daily plans and posts them in the classroom. Completes screenings, records observations of children, and works with parents to meet individual needs; supervises planning and implementation of classroom activities; ensures completion of programmatic and agency reports; conducts ongoing COR assessments as required. Plans and implements a cultural awareness program with at least one activity per month. Assists in preparing and supervising nutritious meals and snacks, purchases food supplies, and promotes a learning environment during mealtime. Orient parents as classroom volunteers and assists staff and parents in organizing parent activities; attends parent meetings. Coordinates and attends home visits. Interviews, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff; maintains performance review system for direct reports; mediates staff conflicts; counsels employees on performance issues; recommends disciplinary action when necessary; assesses and orders program equipment and supplies for staff and sites. Non-essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs additional duties as assigned. Requirements Experience 2–3 years of teaching experience with young children in a center‑based program or home‑day‑care program. At least two years of supervisory experience. Experience in planning for individual needs. Experience establishing and maintaining safe, healthy learning environments. Experience conducting developmental screenings. Skills Excellent customer service skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and related computer software. Excellent communication with and relation to young children. Ability to work with a diverse population. Strong multitasking abilities. Ability to promote feelings of trust and security by establishing caring relationships. Education and Knowledge Requirements Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, or a related field with at least 36 credits in Early Childhood. Credential or certification in family services or a related field within 18 months of hire. Individuals with a CDA or Associate’s Degree must be in active pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field. Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards. Must hold an Ed Tech Certification (Levels II or III). Open classroom/hands‑on learning philosophy. Working knowledge of Early Childhood Education. First Aid and CPR certification. Other Requirements Ability to work a flexible schedule. Must pass required background checks. Must hold a current C.H.R.C. credential. Must hold a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and provide proof of insurance. General Expectations Maintains and promotes the Agency’s Mission, Vision, and Goals. Physical Requirements The role requires frequent use of hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; climb or balance occasionally; taste or smell. Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Requirements include arranging classroom equipment, moving furniture, sitting in small chairs and on the floor for extended periods, and working at low tables. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Work is primarily performed in a child‑based classroom setting and occasionally in residential homes. Employees may encounter risks associated with unsanitary or unsafe living conditions, poor indoor air quality, and unruly pets. Frequent outdoor exposure and occasional local travel, sometimes in inclement weather, may be required. Limited exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and other bodily fluids is possible.
