Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)

Snoqualmie Valley Health, an independent public hospital district, is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to support the daily operations of the nursing unit. Position Summary The Health Unit Coordinator acts as the central communication hub, coordinating patient records, admissions, discharges, transfers, and interdepartmental communication to ensure efficient workflow and timely patient care. Key Responsibilities Serve as the central communication hub for the nursing unit Answer and appropriately route phone calls, patient call lights, and messages Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers by coordinating required documentation and communication Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, ancillary departments, and other healthcare staff Monitor and maintain unit supplies, forms, and equipment inventory Maintain accurate patient charts, electronic health records, and unit documentation Coordinate requests for transport, diagnostic services, and support services Ensure patient information is updated and documentation completed in a timely and accurate manner Support nursing staff with administrative tasks to help maintain efficient unit operations Living Our Values Build Trust Demonstrate integrity, transparency, and compassion in all interactions with patients, families, and staff Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with privacy regulations Foster a professional and respectful work environment Obsess Over Excellence Maintain high standards of accuracy and organization in documentation and communication Ensure timely completion of administrative responsibilities Seek opportunities to improve processes and support quality patient care Lead Innovation Support new technologies and systems that improve unit efficiency and care coordination Adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast‑paced healthcare environment Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in solving workflow challenges Deepen Connections Build strong working relationships with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members Promote clear and effective communication across departments Support a collaborative environment that enhances patient care and teamwork Qualifications Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Experience: Health Unit Coordinator, medical office, or healthcare administrative experience; familiarity with electronic health record systems preferred Skills Strong organizational and time management skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy Proficiency in basic computer applications and electronic health record systems Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team Work Environment Working in a fast‑paced clinical setting with frequent interruptions Exposure to healthcare environments where infection prevention and safety protocols must be followed Physical Demands Ability to sit for extended periods while performing administrative and documentation tasks Frequent standing and walking within the nursing unitAbility to use computers, telephones, and office equipment for prolonged periods Frequent reaching, bending, and light lifting of supplies or charts up to 20 pounds Manual dexterity required for typing, filing, and handling documentation Ability to hear and communicate clearly with patients, families, and staff in a busy clinical environment Ability to visually review charts, monitors, and electronic documentation systems Other Duties Other duties may be assigned to support unit operations; responsibilities may change with or without notice.
