Lab Infrastructure Engineer

We are seeking a hands-on Layer 1 Lab Infrastructure Engineer to support our lab environments, network infrastructure, radio deployments, and testing operations. This individual will be responsible for lab build activities, hardware installations, cabling, infrastructure audits, radio testing, asset management, and troubleshooting across a large-scale telecommunications testing environment.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work across multiple teams to ensure seamless deployment, operation, and testing of wireless infrastructure. This role is highly visible and supports critical lab initiatives involving next-generation radio platforms, proof-of-concept hardware, and network testing environments.

Core Responsibilities

Lab Infrastructure & Build Support

• Perform Layer 1 infrastructure installations, including rack-and-stack activities, cabling, hardware deployment, and connectivity validation.
• Support wireless lab build-outs and ongoing lab operations.
• Ensure all installed infrastructure functions properly and transitions seamlessly between engineering, testing, and operations teams.
• Assist with decommissioning legacy infrastructure and preparing environments for new equipment deployments.

RAN & Radio Engineering Support

• Install, configure, and support RAN infrastructure within lab environments.
• Support radio testing activities, including prototype and next-generation radio hardware.
• Assist with troubleshooting radio, BBU (Baseband Unit), and RAN-related issues.
• Perform health checks and validation of radio infrastructure and supporting network components.
• Maintain knowledge of radio technologies, frequency bands, and wireless network architecture.

Hardware Lifecycle Management

• Conduct infrastructure and hardware audits.
• Track and document equipment inventories, serial numbers, locations, and hardware status.
• Support onboarding and deployment of new hardware into lab environments.
• Coordinate hardware replacement, upgrades, and retirement activities.

Troubleshooting & Operational Support

• Investigate and resolve infrastructure, cabling, connectivity, and hardware-related issues.
• Collaborate with engineering, automation, and testing teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Support client and internal testing teams by ensuring required infrastructure is available, properly configured, and functioning as expected.
• Escalate issues appropriately and coordinate resolution with cross-functional teams.

Asset Documentation & NetBox Administration

• Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation within NetBox and related inventory management systems.
• Update hardware records for installations, moves, adds, and changes.
• Support large-scale hardware data uploads and inventory tracking activities.
• Ensure documentation standards are followed across multiple lab locations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with RAN engineers, lab operations teams, automation engineers, and project managers to support ongoing initiatives.
• Provide infrastructure support for testing programs and proof-of-concept deployments.
• Participate in planning and execution of lab projects and infrastructure upgrades.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of structured cabling, fiber connectivity, and physical network architecture.
• Hands-on experience with hardware installation, rack-and-stack, and lab deployments.
• Experience performing infrastructure audits and inventory management.
• Familiarity with asset documentation and configuration management databases (CMDBs).
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work across multiple teams and manage competing priorities.
• Experience maintaining technical documentation and inventory records.
