Ophthalmologist

Position Overview

Part‑time Board Certified or Residency Trained Ophthalmologist position with predictable hours and a consistent home hospital assignment. The role allows for flexibility while maintaining clinical engagement and continuity of care within a locally led team supported by national resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups
• Communicate and educate clients
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Handle pharmacy duties, including prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols
• Promote teamwork and staff efficiency
• Collaborate with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations
• Evaluate and monitor hospital protocols from intake to discharge
• Attend daily rounds to uphold high standards when possible
• Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Management

Qualifications (Required)

• Veterinary degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university
• One‑year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, or ER (university or large referral practice)
• Completed a 3‑year, AVMA approved residency program
• Current State Veterinary License
• DEA registration obtained and maintained
• Strong diagnostic and clinical skills
• Team‑oriented work ability
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality veterinary care
• Effective communication with Medical and Hospital staff
• Client communication skills, including rapport building and clear explanations
• Ability to handle pets experiencing stress, illness, or pain with confidence and reassurance
• Physical capability to perform moderately demanding work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

• Board Certification
• 2 to 5 years of post‑residency experience
• Demonstrated clinical knowledge in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other examinations; ability to diagnose and prescribe appropriate treatments
• Problem‑solving skills for high‑quality veterinary hospital management
• Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and staff
• Professionalism and willingness to provide and receive constructive feedback
• Business acumen regarding veterinary hospital management and finances
• Understanding of ethical principles guiding patient decisions
• Commitment to continuing education and facilitating learning for others

Pay Range

$85,000 - $100,000 USD
