Job Summary Location: Methodist Physicians Clinic – Fremont Urgent Care Address: 1240 E 23rd St. Fremont, NE 68025 Work Schedule: Thursday & Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (16 hrs/week). Potential for extra hours Monday through Wednesday Occupational Medicine is not open on holidays or weekends. Assists providers by reviewing records, preparing patients and exam rooms, providing patient education, scheduling, and handling prescription renewals and inquiries. Will also assist in the collection of drug and alcohol testing, pre‑employment exams, DOT physicals, and injury care. Responsibilities Demonstrates clinical knowledge of occupational health nursing and provides appropriate nursing care to clients served by the Occupational Medicine Clinic. Follows established policies, procedures, and nursing protocols for the department. Completes post‑offer health examinations ensuring that all job requirements are met, including up‑to‑date immunizations, obtains health history, and consults with the authorizing employer for outline of job duties to be performed. Performs Drug & Alcohol screenings as required. Draws blood as needed for titers and screening. Prepares required documentation for Employer Notification of Fit‑for‑Duty exams. Prepares documentation for injured workers / workers’ compensation patients. Collaborates with Workers Compensation Case Manager. Documents information on all forms and in client records in a timely and complete manner with 100% accuracy. Utilizes assessment skills to determine client’s injury and communicates findings to the provider. Performs drug and alcohol testing according to protocol and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Completes chain‑of‑custody forms and alcohol testing forms; consents completely and accurately. Communicates results to appropriate contact person, if needed. Forwards forms and specimens to the proper resource, when applicable. Maintains current DOT drug and alcohol testing certification. Provides follow‑up care for a client involved in a blood/bodily fluid or contagious disease exposure. Determines the need for follow‑up of exposures according to protocol and CDC regulations. Provides counseling specific to the client’s needs regarding exposure. Ensures communication of lab results to client and source’s physician, when applicable. Initiates action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risks to the client (e.g., injuries, needle punctures). Completes report forms for employee injury/illness. Communicates to appropriate personnel regarding safety issues. Takes a proactive role in injury/illness prevention and safety awareness. Educates clients as appropriate. Provides excellent customer service to clients of companies who utilize Methodist Occupational Medicine or prospective clients. Courteously answers the phone, takes messages, or forwards to an Employee Health nurse if necessary. Schedules appointments accurately and within department policy. Documents in the scheduler that the client was present for the scheduled appointment with 100% accuracy. Greets clients when they arrive, communicates in a professional and courteous manner. Ensures clients sign in on arrival with 100% accuracy. Responds to client’s needs directed at meeting defined goals per departmental policy. Ensures that “Release of Medical Information” is obtained prior to releasing client‑requested information. Prepares forms and paperwork required for physicals/appointments that have been scheduled or walk‑ins. Processes DOT Physical Examination forms to the DOT National Registry promptly and accurately. Prepares all documents for scanning process. Monitors scanning process to achieve 100% accuracy. Sends correspondence to department supervisors and/or employees as needed. Maintains a professional behavior in attitudes, demeanor, and interactions to achieve organization’s mission. Communicates effectively to solve problems at the personal and unit level. Is approachable and professional in working with others. Assists in acting as a preceptor to new employees. Actively participates in department projects. Performs technical skills and paperwork completely and independently. Is accountable for learning new skills and equipment use within specific timeframes. Takes part in department record‑keeping activities (lab results, OSHA log, Infection Control, etc.) as needed. Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the client to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the age‑specific criteria. Tailors education to fit client needs. Involves family or parent when necessary. Promotes wellness activities for clients served by the department. Provides information to clients regarding wellness activities offered by the Health System. Encourages employees to have a primary physician. Provides blood pressure and glucose testing. Dispenses and documents over‑the‑counter medications per standing orders upon employee request. Coordinates annual flu clinics. Encourages use of the patient portal. Facilitates community education with local businesses on specific topics pertinent to the health and safety of their employees. Participates in the origination and implementation of employer/client‑sponsored vaccine clinics. Facilitates the care and schedule organization of company on‑site clinics for care and health management. Education Degree in nursing required. Experience 2 years of medical/surgical experience required. 1 year of occupational health, emergency room, clinic, or school nursing experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and Workers Compensation laws strongly preferred. License/Certifications Current valid LPN license, valid compact multi‑state license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire; required within 3 months of hire. Department of Transportation (DOT) Urine Specimen Collector Certification preferred. Breath Alcohol Technician Certification preferred. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures required. Knowledge of medicine including recognizing and diagnosing diseases, deformities, and other illnesses. Skill to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks. Skill to proficiently type information into the computer quickly. Ability to provide caring patient care services when interacting with patients. Ability to critically listen to questions from patients and information from providers to convey information effectively. Ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve problems before they occur. Ability to problem‑solve during daily activities including flexibility. Ability to coordinate care with referring providers for further injury care. Ability to coordinate with Workers Compensation carriers for documentation needs. Ability to provide health education. Ability to manage crises/emergencies. Proficient experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) for communication and presentations. Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks, problem‑solve, and prioritize work assignments to meet tight deadlines with little or no supervision. Physical Requirements Medium Work – exerting up to 50 pounds of force. Occasionally performed (1‑33%) – climbing, crawling, kneeling, sitting. Frequently performed (34‑66%) – balancing, carrying, crouching, distinguishing colors, keyboarding/typing, lifting, pulling/pushing, repetitive motions, standing, stooping/bending, twisting, walking. Constantly performed (67‑100%) – grasping, hearing, reaching, seeing/visual, speaking/talking. Job Hazards Not related – explosives (pressurized gas), electrical shock/static, radiation alpha, beta, gamma (e.g., X‑ray, CAT scan, Gamma Knife), radiation non‑ionizing (ultraviolet, visible light, infrared, microwaves). Rare (1‑33%) – chemical agents (toxic, corrosive, flammable, latex), mechanical moving parts/vibrations. Occasionally (34‑66%) – biological agents (primarily airborne and bloodborne viruses) (jobs with patient contact) (BBF), physical hazards (noise, temperature, lighting, wet floors, outdoors, sharps), equipment/machinery/tools. Note: Safety Officer can assist with identification of job hazards.
