The Yard Hand is responsible for assisting with carrying out tasks required to successfully achieve the service department objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Haul, block and launch boats
• Line handling for vessels coming and going from docks
• Assist with blocking on rail cars
• Perform general boat maintenance and service to yard-based tugboats
• Operate yard machinery including forklifts, manlifts, scissor lifts, yard boat, ship-lift, graving dock, etc
• Assist with rigging loads for crane operations
• Maintenance and care of all HBL equipment
• Cleanliness and organization of the blocking shed and slipways
• Availability to work overtime when required
• Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

• Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
• Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area
• Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately

Technical and Physical Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous marina experience preferred
• Heavy forklift experience a plus
• Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
• Ability to work in all weather conditions
• Ability to work in confined spaces
• Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Basic boat handling skills a plus
• Any skills considered standard that a Yard Hand should possess
