Appalachian Mountain Health

Allergist/Immunologist Opportunity

This role focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with allergic and immunologic conditions. The ideal candidate is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care in a collaborative and community-focused environment.

Key responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with allergies, asthma, and related immunologic disorders; performing and interpreting diagnostic tests; developing individualized treatment plans; educating patients and families on disease management; maintaining accurate medical records; collaborating with other healthcare providers; and staying current with advancements in allergy and immunology practices.

Requirements include a medical degree, board certification or eligibility in Allergy and Immunology, an active medical license in North Carolina, strong clinical and diagnostic skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and a commitment to patient-centered care and community health.

Preferred qualifications include experience in a rural or community health setting, familiarity with electronic health record systems, and interest in patient education and outreach initiatives.

The position requires the ability to perform essential clinical functions in an outpatient healthcare setting, with or without reasonable accommodation. This includes the ability to stand and walk for extended periods; sit for prolonged documentation; and frequently bend, reach, and move between exam and procedure rooms. The provider must possess sufficient manual dexterity to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including allergy skin testing and administration of immunotherapy injections. Visual acuity (with or without correction) is required to accurately assess patients and interpret clinical findings, including subtle dermatologic changes, and to read medical documentation. Auditory ability (with or without assistive devices) is necessary for effective communication with patients and staff and to recognize clinical alarms or patient distress. The role requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and to assist with patient positioning as needed. The provider must be able to respond promptly to urgent and emergent situations, including allergic reactions, and to work in an environment with potential exposure to allergens, biological materials, and other clinical hazards.

This position is based in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providing outpatient specialty care in Allergy and Immunology. The clinical environment is fast-paced, mission-driven, and focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to a diverse and underserved population. The provider works as part of an interdisciplinary team within a primary careintegrated setting, collaborating closely with primary care, nursing, and care coordination staff to support comprehensive management of allergic and immunologic conditions. Work is primarily conducted in outpatient clinic settings with access to electronic health records for documentation and care coordination. The role may involve occasional exposure to infectious diseases and requires adherence to standard clinical safety protocols. Flexible scheduling may be required based on patient access needs.

The above duties and responsibilities are essential job functions, subject to reasonable accommodations. All job requirements listed indicate the minimum level of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities deemed necessary to perform the job proficiently. This job description is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities, or requirements. Employees may be required to perform any other job-related instructions, as requested by their supervisor, subject to reasonable accommodation.
