Process Development Scientist

Amgen seeks a Process Development Scientist to join the Synthetics Enabling Technologies group in Cambridge, MA. The role focuses on solid-state characterization, particularly solid-state NMR spectroscopy, supporting drug substance and drug product development for synthetic and biologic programs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement solid-state NMR techniques to characterize drug substance and drug product structures for synthetics and biologics programs
• Drive lead optimization and form selection to meet discovery research and process development requirements
• Perform biopharmaceutical assessments using predictive in silico and in vitro models to identify development strategies
• Interface with Process Development and Research & Development partners and support regulatory filings including IND and NDA submissions
• Contribute to intellectual property and patent filings while training staff and presenting scientific results internally and externally

Requirements

• Doctorate degree, or Master's degree with 2+ years scientific experience, or Bachelor's degree with 4+ years scientific experience
• Master's degree in physics, materials science, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, or related discipline (preferred)
• Strong background in solid-state NMR spectroscopy method development with published scientific results
• Experience with solid-state characterization techniques (DSC, TGA, XRPD, microscopy, moisture sorption)
• Knowledge of solid form development including polymorphism, solvates, hydrates, and salt/co-crystal characterization
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with ability to communicate across diverse audiences
• Proactive problem-solver with strong cross-functional collaboration skills
