Position Summary The Food Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the school cafeteria to ensure the delivery of safe, nutritious, and appealing meals in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations. The manager coordinates meal preparation, service, food safety standards, inventory, and staffing, and collaborates with district personnel, vendors, and school administration to promote student wellness and healthy eating habits. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency. Two (2) years of school district food service or related experience. Food Handlers Certification from an ANSI accredited program; non‑ANSI certifications must be registered with the Texas Department of State Health Services. Successful completion of a background check, including fingerprinting. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years of supervisor/leadership experience. Certified Food Manager (Food Safety Manager) from an ANSI accredited program, obtained within 180 days of employment. Proficiency in both English and Spanish. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in high‑volume food service operations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact pleasantly and professionally with staff, students, faculty, visitors, and coworkers. Enforcement of all program requirements under the National School Lunch Program. Strong planning, organization, reading, writing, and computation skills required for cafeteria management. Basic computer skills. Strong leadership ability, positive work environment management, and adherence to confidentiality and attendance expectations. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain serving schedules and meal service per district menu specifications. Direct daily kitchen and cafeteria activities in accordance with HACCP guidelines. Coordinate employee work schedules, production records, and payroll information. Resolve personnel issues and scheduling changes in collaboration with the campus principal. Train, supervise, and evaluate food service personnel. Maintain accurate production and inventory records; manage orders and periodic inventory checks. Ensure food is stored safely and prepared to high quality standards. Maintain equipment logs, assist with preventive maintenance, and report necessary repairs. Participate in meetings, training, and seminars as scheduled. Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and confidentiality standards. Perform other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs or ramps, balancing, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, pulling, pushing, and overhead reaching. Must handle repetitive hand motions and be able to speak and hear clearly. Daily data input and proficiency in reading are required. Tools/Equipment Used Computer and related software; copier, fax, cash register, multi‑line phone system, and kitchen equipment such as electric slicer, mixers, steamer, sharp cutting tools, ovens, dishwasher, utility cart, and fire extinguisher. Physical/Motion/Posture Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, and occasional biological hazards. Requires intermittent lifting, carrying, and lowering of up to 51 pounds; ability to work on slippery surfaces and with hot water. Supervisor Responsibilities Assigned food service personnel.
