Assistant Professor, Clinical Faculty Appointment (CFA) - General Oncology

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
This faculty position reports to the Chairman of the Department of General Oncology, who in turn reports to the Head of the Division of Medicine. The successful candidate will establish a robust clinical practice and educational program in General Oncology, with a subspecialty focus on thoracic/head and neck medical oncology at the Houston‑area location in League City, TX. General Responsibilities Clinical : Provide clinical expertise in patient care management and create an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students in medical oncology and related areas. Collaborate with colleagues and initiate clinical trials. Research : Participate in and contribute to clinical research studies. Translate results from trials into patient care, publish reviews, book chapters, and other scholarly work. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication and the ability to synthesize information relevant to the research area. Teach trainees and engage in collaborative studies within the department. Administrative Maintain well‑developed interpersonal skills and work within a context of intense relationships with physicians, scientists, and subordinates. Represent the Department of General Oncology in local, regional, state, and national matters. May travel outside the Houston area and share information with colleagues verbally or in writing. Serve as an educator and clinician role model for faculty, fellows, residents, and students. Conduct peer reviews to assess clinical performance of departmental faculty. Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested, attending meetings, reviewing documents, and providing verbal feedback. Education/Teaching Provide a balanced and integrated educational program for clinical and research fellows in the clinic and inpatient consult service. Participate in division/department teaching and continuing‑education conferences, interacting with colleagues on campus. Serve as advisor/mentor for research and clinical fellows and students during clinical training. Serve on Cancer Medicine Fellowship committees as indicated. Research Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activities to enhance the academic environment. Develop educational programs aligned with departmental goals, synthesizing information related to clinical investigation and instructing clinical support personnel. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms for clinical and educational activities, completing grant applications, budgeting, and analysis. Service Represent the Department of General Oncology in local, regional, state, and national matters, traveling as needed and returning to disseminate information. Practice clinical medicine to Texas State Board of Medical Examiners standards, balancing clinical duties with academic commitments. Provide comprehensive history and physical examinations; perform invasive procedures as required by the subspecialty. Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Provide physician staffing appropriate for a training center and consult service at a level commensurate with peers of similar experience. Review ICD‑10 and CPT coding, approve charge documents within five working days, and complete patient documentation within institutional time frames. Correspond with physicians regarding patient care, requests appropriate consultations, and keep abreast of current management approaches through continuing education. Serve as a role model for faculty, fellows, residents, and students and conduct peer reviews of departmental clinical practice. Maintain strong interpersonal relationships with physicians, patients, and subordinates.
