Position: Inpatient Psychiatric Social Worker

Department: Behavioral Health / Inpatient Psychiatry

Rate : Up to $2125 weekly + benefits from day 1!

Position Summary

The Inpatient Psychiatric Social Worker provides psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, case management, discharge planning, and supportive counseling to patients receiving inpatient psychiatric care. The social worker collaborates with psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, case managers, families, and community providers to support patient stabilization and safe transition to the next level of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments and identify patient strengths, needs, risks, and barriers to treatment.
• Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute to individualized treatment and discharge plans.
• Provide individual, family, and group interventions as appropriate.
• Assist patients experiencing psychiatric crises, emotional distress, and behavioral health challenges.
• Assess social determinants of health, including housing, transportation, finances, family support, and access to community resources.
• Coordinate discharge planning and referrals to outpatient mental health services, substance-use treatment, residential programs, shelters, and other community resources.
• Collaborate with patients, families, healthcare providers, and community agencies to promote continuity of care.
• Provide education regarding treatment, community resources, coping strategies, and aftercare recommendations.
• Document assessments, interventions, treatment-plan updates, referrals, and discharge plans accurately and promptly.
• Assist with safety planning and communicate relevant risk concerns to the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Advocate for patient needs and support patient rights, dignity, and autonomy.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, ethical standards, confidentiality requirements, and applicable regulations.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
• Appropriate state social work license or eligibility for licensure, as required.
• Experience in behavioral health, inpatient psychiatry, crisis services, or a related setting preferred.
• Knowledge of psychiatric disorders, crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and community mental health resources.
• Strong clinical assessment, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
