Cardiovascular Operating Room Registered Nurse

The unit consists of 2 operating suites. An average of 2 cases are performed each day. Required certifications include BLS for surgical technologists, as well as BLS, ACLS, and PALS for registered nurses. Common cases include CABG, valve repairs, dissections, thoracotomies, and carotid endarterectomies. Experience in scrubbing is preferred but not mandatory. A manager and charge nurse are present on each shift. Charge nurses may take on assignments. There are 4 OR techs in the unit. The electronic medical record system used is Epic. Shifts follow a 4-week scheduling pattern. Weeknight call requirements include 1-2 weeknights per week and every 3-4 weekends for heart call. Weekend heart call is required 3-4 times per month. The department closes on holidays but a call team is available. Call response time is expected to be within 30 minutes. Floating requirements are to be determined. Scrubs are provided for staff. Unit-specific orientation consists of 3-4 shifts. The hospital has a cancellation policy allowing up to 4 shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment. The charting system used in the department is Epic.
