About the role NYC Health + Hospitals, part of the nation’s largest public health system, is hiring a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) to provide psychosocial services at Bellevue Hospital. The role is classified as Level III. Work Shifts 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with weekend, overnight, and holiday coverage. Qualifications Valid LCSW license issued by the NYSED. Responsibilities Purpose of Position : This position involves professional, supervisory, or administrative work in a social work department, providing psychosocial and other social work services across various settings. The individual ensures patient‑centered quality care and supports better outcomes and patient experience, in accordance with all applicable regulations and social work standards. Under general supervision, with moderate latitude for independent judgment and decision making, the LCSW either supervises social work staff or performs tasks in specialized clinical and programmatic areas. Typical Tasks Screen charts for historical and clinical information; conduct psychosocial evaluations through interviews with patients and/or surrogates; formulate appropriate social work treatment plans. Provide individual and group counseling in health care setting offices or in community settings within NYC, as required. Confers and consults with professionals in other disciplines to determine and implement a multidisciplinary approach to patient care; develop treatment plans, evaluate progress, develop discharge and aftercare plans, and recommend alternative action or treatment. Provide outreach services, make referrals to other agencies, prepare patients to accept services, provide direct social work services on high‑risk cases, and escort patients in community activities and referrals, as needed. As a mandated reporter, document and report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the New York State Central Registry. Appear and testify at administrative and court hearings, as necessary. Assist in plans for institutional or hospital discharge and other post institutional/hospital care; evaluate alternate care arrangements for patients, where needed. Participate in staff conferences and other related social work meetings, special studies, committees, and/or research projects and internal/external QA/PI activities, programs, and trainings, as required. Prepare reports and related paperwork; keep appropriate records. Ensure ongoing compliance with NYC Health + Hospitals policies, national standards, and external regulatory requirements and accreditation authorities, as well as safety and quality management standards. May assist in the provision of clinical services only under supervision of a New York State LCSW, licensed psychologist, or psychiatrist. Perform other related duties, as directed and with required supervision. Assignment Level II and Level III Special Duties Mentor and assist less experienced social work staff in social work techniques; serve as a resource in advanced social work practice. Supervise graduate and undergraduate social work students, volunteers, and auxiliary personnel as needed. May supervise clinical services under a New York State LCSW, licensed psychologist, or psychiatrist, or perform such functions independently as an LCSW. Additional Tasks for Higher Level Positions Provide direct clinical supervision and guidance to social work staff; screen and assign cases; schedule staff; review staff work; evaluate work performance; maintain time and leave records. As an LCSW, provide and document clinical supervision of NYC H+H Licensed Master Social Workers toward advanced Social Work licensure, in alignment with professional standards and NYS licensure laws. Maintain individualized supervision logs; ensure timely completion of attestation forms for NYSED. Conduct or lead special studies and projects including data collection and evaluation; prepare and present reports on vulnerable patient populations. Establish and maintain professional social work standards concerning interview techniques and methods; practices used in preparing assessments and treatment plans. Interpret clinical information; prepare and submit comprehensive reports of case findings. Orient and educate members of other disciplines by developing training curricula. Train and instruct staff in policies and procedures; appropriate social work techniques. Ensure compliance with accepted social work practices and operational adherence to government rules and regulations. Participate in conferences, committees, and meetings with supervisory staff, other professionals, and agencies. Analyze population health issues; serve as liaison to community agencies and/or groups. Liaise with community agencies to facilitate communication and utilization of resources. In the temporary absence of the supervisor, may perform the duties of that position.
