2026-27 High School Groundskeeper - Horizon HS Paradise Valley USD 69 Horizon HS - Scottsdale, Arizona Job Details Job ID: 5619600 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: Mar 31, 2026 6:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Jul 1, 2026 Job Description High School Groundskeeper Location: Horizon High School Duration: 12 months, 8 hours/day Grade: 13, $15.44/hour Type: Non-Interim Position Start Date: 7/1/2026 Purpose Statement The job of High School Groundskeeper is to provide support to the educational process by performing grounds maintenance services at an assigned High School; ensuring attractive and safe grounds areas and athletic fields; protecting against erosion; performing special maintenance operations; and maintaining grounds for assemblies, events, and recreational activities. This job reports to Site Administrator and/or Lead Ground Coordinator. Essential Functions Attends unit meetings, in‑service training, workshops, etc., to gather information required for job functions. Cleans landscaped areas and related items (e.g., storm drains, fields, litter) to prevent flooding and remove hazards. Consults with athletic and administrative personnel to plan, prioritize, and schedule grounds maintenance activities. Maintains job‑related grounds‑keeping equipment (e.g., mowers, loaders, trucks, weed trimmers, blowers, chainsaws) to ensure equipment availability in a safe operating condition. Operates grounds‑keeping equipment (e.g., mowers, loaders, trucks, field‑marking equipment, weed trimmers, blowers, chainsaws) to provide services efficiently and timely. Plants and/or spreads landscaping materials (e.g., plants, grass, bushes, trees, rocks, bark) to keep grounds attractive and protect against erosion. Prepares and maintains grounds and athletic fields (e.g., fertilizes soil, courtyards, flower beds, chalk fields, paint stripping) to provide adequate, attractive, and safe areas for assemblies, recreation, and athletic events. Repairs irrigation systems and components (e.g., valves, wiring, timers, switches) to ensure equipment is properly working. Requests materials, supplies, equipment, and/or support personnel to complete assignments promptly. Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, vandalism, alarms) by taking appropriate action or notifying proper personnel. Transports a variety of tools, equipment, supplies to ensure materials are available at the job site. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Skills: Operating equipment used in grounds maintenance (tractors, weed whips, mowers, hand and power tools) and adherence to safety practices. Knowledge: Algebra and/or geometry; understanding of written procedures; writing routine documents; speaking clearly; comprehension of complex, multi‑step written and oral instructions; methods for preparing and maintaining plants, shrubs, lawns; safety practices and procedures. Abilities: Scheduling activities/meetings; collating data; operating job‑related equipment; flexibility to work with others; problem‑solving to identify issues and select action plans; adherence to safety practices; meeting deadlines; communicating with diverse groups; maintaining a good rapport with students, staff, and community. Responsibilities Work under limited supervision, follow standard practices and methods, provide information and/or advise others, and have continual opportunities to impact the organization’s services. Work Environment The job requires significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity.
