About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 7 PM to 7 AM, every other weekend Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in Emergency Room License: State license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, TNS or TNCC, NIHSS Must-Have: - Emergency care experience - Flexibility to rotate shifts - Moderate sedation experience Description: Provide emergency care to the community. No separate fast track area; patients are intermixed in the department. A triage area is available in the department. Typically, travelers will not be assigned to triage. Utilize the ESI rating system for patient assessment. Patient care includes managing both ER patients and those in a holding area. Four behavioral health safe rooms are available within the unit. Security personnel are in-house 24/7 and available upon request. On average, the facility treats 60-80 patients every 24 hours. The nurse-to-patient ratio is adjusted based on staffing and patient acuity, generally 1:4-5. Common diagnoses include respiratory viruses, trauma cases, and a variety of medical conditions. Critical care drips are frequently administered. An ED physician is available during the day with mid-level coverage extending into the night. A house supervisor is present 24/7. Patient care support is provided by ED techs, who assist with EKGs, blood draws, vitals, and room maintenance. Respiratory therapy support is available and typically manages equipment. Imaging services are connected to the department for immediate patient transport. Both techs and nurses handle blood draws. Shifts include a mix of day and night schedules, with flexibility essential. Weekend and holiday coverage will be scheduled to meet unit needs. There is no call or standby requirement for the position. Potential floating to other units may occur, requiring experience in those areas. Nursing staff are expected to wear professional solid color scrubs. Two 12-hour shifts of department-specific orientation will be conducted.
