Position Description

The Asphalt Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of an asphalt plant to produce high-quality asphalt mix in accordance with production schedules, project specifications, and environmental regulations. This role requires strong mechanical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.

Position Requirements

• Plant Operation & Maintenance
  • Operate the asphalt plant and related equipment (e.g., conveyors, silos, dryers) to produce asphalt mix according to job specifications.
  • Monitor plant controls, temperatures, and materials to ensure proper mix quality and consistency.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on plant machinery.
  • Inspect equipment daily for potential mechanical issues and ensure all components are in good working order.
• Production Operations
  • Coordinate with site supervisors and truck drivers to ensure timely delivery and loading of asphalt.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials used, production output, and downtime.
  • Adjust production settings based on material supply, weather conditions, and quality control testing.
• Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies, MSHA and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ensure environmental compliance regarding dust, emissions, and waste handling.
  • Conduct pre-shift inspections and safety checks of plant equipment and surroundings.
• Quality Control Support
  • Work with the Quality Control team to meet mix design specifications and address any product deficiencies.
  • Assist with sampling and testing as required.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical training in plant operations or heavy equipment preferred.
• Experience:
  • Minimum 5years of experience operating an asphalt or similar type of plant.
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience strongly preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid driver's license required.

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read gauges, dials, and computer screens.
• Basic math and record-keeping abilities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements:

• Outdoor industrial environment; exposure to cold, heat, dust, noise, and heavy machinery.
• Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, carry at least 30 lbs and stand for extended periods.
• Overtime, weekend, and night work may be required depending on project needs.
