About the Position

Trauma level 2 or higher preferred. Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources. Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties specific to the scope of service. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided assures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. The RN completes initial assessments upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards. The plan of care is based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication with others, directly and in private when necessary, is essential to resolve issues. The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Conferring with colleagues assists in expanding the knowledge base. Identifying own learning needs and taking initiative to begin appropriate solutions is important. The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Unit specific job functions include implementing procedures and theories specific to emergency department nursing. The RN performs patient assessments and develops care plans in collaboration with providers, family, and the patient. Executing the plan of care and nursing interventions is crucial. Modifying the care plan based on continuous assessment is necessary. The RN is responsible for patient and staff safety through appropriate nursing interventions and by adhering to safety standards. Effective communication and collaboration with staff, visitors, and families promote a healthy and healing work environment. The RN maintains accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.
