Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (26-27 SY)

Reporting Structure: The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant is a member of the REAL Journey Academies\' Academic Team, Educational Support Services reporting to the Assistant Superintendent or designee. Primary Responsibility: Assists speech-language pathologist staff in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech-language pathology services for pupils with speech and language disorders including articulation/phonology, cognition, motor speech, dysphagia, voice, fluency, craniofacial anomalies, hearing and child and adult language; assists in providing training and use of augmentative and alternative communication. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to: Provide direct treatment assistance to identified pupils; prepare work areas and materials for use during speech and language assistance; Conduct speech-language screenings using specified screening protocols developed by certificated speech-language pathologist staff; Accompany pupils to and from therapy sessions and/or prepares for speech language session; Maintain comprehensive records and materials relating to screening results and provides information to certificated staff; Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by certificated staff; documents and reports pupil progress toward meeting established goals as stated in IEP (Individualized Education Plan) or an IFSP (Individualized Family Services Plan); Assist speech-pathologist staff during assessment of pupils; maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to pupils and their families; Schedule activities, prepare a variety of materials including charts, graphs, and other data display information; provides recordkeeping for pupil files and performs related office support tasks; Maintain and clean equipment using infection control protocol; checks and maintains equipment in proper working condition; Participate with certificated staff in research projects; attends inservice training and other related activities; Participate in classroom activities as requested by speech-language pathology staff; attends conferences and workshops related to speech/language pathology services; Other duties as assigned Expectations Adhere to all RJA Policies and Procedures, and policies and practices of the RJA Educational Support Services. Knowledge of preparation of personal computer, involving the use of microcomputer spreadsheets, and other office equipment. Ability to perform duties in an environment of frequent interruptions. Ability to perform a wide variety of clerical duties. Ability to perform repetitive tasks involving data. Ability to type a variety of documents and records. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. Ability to learn, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, procedures, and laws governing related activities. Ability to communicate effectively, both in orally and in writing Ability to work cooperatively with others, including adolescents. Ability to revise office procedures and systems as needed. Immediately communicate any concerns directly to the Assistant Superintendent. Qualifications Any combination of training, experience, and/or education equivalent to graduation from a recognized school or program for Speech/Language Pathology Assistant as part of an AA degree in Science including specialized coursework, observation supervision, and fieldwork experience. Prior experience in educational or clinical settings is preferred; Possession of valid registrations as a Speech/Language Pathology Assistant with the California Speech-Language Pathology Board; Possession of a valid California Driver\'s License and availability of private transportation (mileage expense allowance provided); Knowledge of technical aspects of the field of specialty. Reading and writing English communication skills; Ability to operate standard office equipment including microcomputers and related software applications. Use appropriate oral and written language in contacts with pupils, parents, and District staff. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Respect and consider age, gender, cultural/linguistic background, and related factors when providing services; Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone; seeing to read, prepares, and proofreads documents, performs assigned duties; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects. Ability to develop and maintain positive rapport with students, staff, and community partners. Ability to use technology Required Licenses and/or Certificates Must possess an appropriate California Driver\'s License and maintain possession of such license during the course of employment Have an acceptable driving record Must be insurable at standard rates by School\'s insurance carrier and maintain such insurability during the course of employment Language Skills: Communicate effectively with students, educational staff, parents and others; Read, apply and be able to explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to therapy and special education per IDEA; Maintain effective records for staff and IEP team. Mathematical Skills: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Required Skills/Abilities Experience with computers and software applications Proficiency with or the ability to learn current software and equipment Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software Physical Demands Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects Occasional or frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping and reaching for extended periods of time. Occasional computer work including but not limited to typing.
