Registered Nurse - 6th Floor Med/Surg Telemetry - Full Time 12 Hour Day Shift (Union)(Fixed Term)

Job Overview As an integral member of the patient care team, the Registered Nurse supports the Chief Nursing Officer and department leadership to provide safe, recovery, and comfort to patients. The RN implements the nursing process—assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, patient education; oversees interventions, evaluates outcomes, and revises the plan as needed. RN practices in compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, Title 22, CDPH regulations, DNV‑GL/NIAHO standards, and other applicable regulations. RN collaborates with co‑workers and other departments to improve unit services and manages efficient services with meaningful outcomes. Responsibilities Support the Chief Nursing Officer in leading the patient care team. Implement the nursing process—assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, education, and evaluation. Advocate for patients and educate patients and families. Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements. Assist the charge nurse with shift planning and contribute to overall unit planning and improvement. Precept and competency validate new hires and new procedures; teach nursing students. Delegate appropriate tasks to other RNs, LVNs, CNAs. Coordinate and communicate expectations to assigned staff. Participate in improvement opportunities, report unusual events, and provide information through chain of command. Executive Functions Planning: Assist charge nurse with shift delivery of patient care. Directing: Precept and validate new hires and new procedures; teach nursing students. Delegating: As indicated, delegate tasks to RNs, LVNs, CNAs. Coordinating: Assign team communication and expectations. Qualifications Minimum Education: Graduation from an accredited Registered Nurse Program; BSN desired (if not obtained upon hire, must be obtained within 5 years). Minimum Experience: 1 year of clinical experience in an acute care setting; experience treating orthopedic and stroke patients preferred. Preferred Experience for Cardiac Cath Lab Nurses: 1 year in ICU, step‑down, or ER, plus 1+ year IR, EP, or Cardiac Cath Lab experience. Preferred Experience for 6th Floor Med/Surg Employees: Two years’ experience with orthopedic and medical‑surgical nursing; certification in Medical‑Surgical, Orthopedic, or other specialty preferred. Required Licenses/Certifications: California Registered Nurse License; specialty or management certification desired. Surgery: BLS, ACLS. PACU/SDS/GI Lab: BLS, ACLS, PALS. Cath Lab: BLS, ACLS. ED: BLS, ACLS, PALS, AB508 (within 30 days of hire), NIHSS (within 30 days of hire), NRP (within 6 months of hire), ENPC (within 12 months of hire). Geropsych: BLS, AB508 (within 30 days of hire). ICU/5S, Telemetry, 6th Med Surg and Float Pool: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (within 30 days of hire), BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP; must be AHA certified.
