MISSION: Read Better Be Better's mission is to connect young readers and youth leaders to inspire a love of literacy and leadership. VISION: Read Better Be Better envisions a world in which empowered communities demand equitable access to foundational skills.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Our internship application window is currently CLOSED. The next application submission window for Fall 2026 internships will open in summer (June). Candidate communications, interviews and follow‑ups will take place in July. You’re always welcome to submit a general interest application.

PROGRAM DURATION AND START DATES

Internship positions are short‑term and last 3–4 months. We offer Spring, Summer and Fall positions. Our programs typically start in January (spring), May (summer) and August (fall).

OUR INTERNSHIP TIMELINE

Spring (January start): Apply in the September–November window. We review applications in December, with start dates in January. Summer (May/June start): Apply in the February–April window. We review applications in late spring, with start dates in May or June. Fall (August/September start): Apply in the April–June window. We review applications in summer, with start dates in August or September.

INTERNSHIP POSITIONS

Current open positions are posted on RBBB's website (readbetterbebetter.org). Some of the roles we've had in the past include: Communications & Marketing Intern; Grant‑writing & Fundraising Intern; Human Resources Intern; Recruitment Intern; IT Intern; Operations & Administrative Intern; Community Engagement Intern; Nonprofit Program Development Intern; and Program Department Intern.

WORK HOURS

RBBB's office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. The schedule depends on your availability and the needs of RBBB. Most internships require a weekly commitment of 8–15 hours.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Most positions are fully in‑person in a professional office environment. Sometimes there is an option for a hybrid schedule or remote work, but we encourage interns to spend as much time as possible in the office to gain exposure to meetings, mentorship, job shadowing and learning opportunities. Interns may also attend off‑site events and visit local elementary schools and community‑based organizations.

SUPERVISOR / MANAGER

The intern will be placed in one of the organization’s departments (Operations, Development or Program) and will report directly to the Department Director or a designated supervisor. You will receive 1:1 guidance, job shadowing, and frequent feedback.

PAY AND BENEFITS

RBBB internships are unpaid and not eligible for benefits. RBBB is committed to providing eligible interns with documentation needed for course credit if they wish to receive it. Other benefits include a casual dress code, professional development, and mentorship opportunities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential functions and responsibilities vary by role and department. Examples include: Nonprofit Program Development: assist in program development, create additional RBBB curriculum, support staff in developing internal and external communications. Communications & Marketing: create and execute small marketing campaigns, research community and media contacts, support social media management and strategy. Human Resources: facilitate special programs such as employee engagement, professional development and wellness newsletters, conduct research on HR practices, assist with applicant screening, phone interviews, and scheduling.

NEEDED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

An RBBB intern must be communicative, positive, professional, responsible, reliable, excited about the organization and mission, and eager to learn and grow. Required and preferred skills vary by role.
