JOB SUMMARY

The Community Living Coordinator is often the first impression we give to residents and the community, therefore, it is crucial that this person be knowledgeable and positively reflect the various aspects of Hope Ministries.  This position is focused on customer service, safety and security, along with a variety of clerical duties, all of which offer help and hope to those who come through our doors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain a neat, orderly, emotionally safe and physically secure community.
• Monitor and authorize entrance of residents along with guests, donors, and volunteers to maintain security of the premises.  Maintain security throughout the facility including regular security rounds indoors and outdoors, securing doors, performing routine locker searches and room searches, and viewing security cameras. Report suspicious activity as necessary and move along loiterers.
• Hold residents accountable for upholding guidelines and program requirements. Use judgement to determine whether or not behaviors comply with standards and address accordingly.
• Maintain communication / documentation such as client and daily logs, UA charts, medication chart, incident reports, in kind donation forms, program fees etc., reporting all guest and program issues in written form and verbally as needed. This also includes copying, sorting, filing records, and routing mail.
• Communicate with residents, employees, donors, volunteers, and other individuals to answer questions, explain information, & address complaints by phone, email, and in person.
• Perform intake duties including but not limited to completing intake paperwork with clients and documenting in Mission Tracker, explaining guidelines to clients, giving clients a tour of the community, ensuring they have needed supplies, and cleaning and resetting rooms for move ins and move outs.
• Fulfill the day-to-day duties of meeting the needs of our clients, including supervised urine analysis tests for drug testing purposes, medication observation, organizing and passing out food and supplies, community tasks, etc.
• Provide crisis intervention and emotional support with clients when needed.
• Provide basic first aid as needed.
• Follow established safety procedures in case of emergency (such as fire, tornado, or fights) to ensure safety for residents and security of the property.
• Report building problems and / or unusual circumstances that warrant action (i.e. maintenance, guest, kitchens, alarms, sprinklers, etc.) to the appropriate person/authority.
• Actively contribute to maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, clients, and visitors. This includes adhering to established safety protocols, promptly reporting any safety concerns or incidents, and supporting organizational efforts to foster a culture of safety and security.
• Assist with supervising Service and Skill assignments.
• Lead Bible study, devotions, and class as needed.
• Work in a spirit of cooperation and mutual assistance with residents, staff, visitors, volunteers, and donors.
• Participate in the spiritual growth and Christian instruction of those whom Hope Ministries serves.  This can include (but is not restricted to) personal mentoring, the sharing of Scriptures and Biblical encouragement, and praying with program participants.  This may be in a structured setting (i.e., a classroom or chapel), or unstructured, with individual clients as the need arises.
• Transport clients using company vehicle as needed.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Community Living Manager and Director.

WORK CONTEXT

The Community Living Coordinator job requires much contact with others both inside and outside the organization, face-to-face & by phone.  A large volume of telephone calls will be taken during the course of a shift.  Interactions with residents, donors, volunteers, staff, and the public occur regularly and are crucial to operations at Hope Ministries.  Decision making will happen often and should be made according to established rules, regulations, policies, and directives.  Our facility serves homeless men, many having drug and alcohol addictions. This position will work in direct proximity with residents including areas such as sleeping areas & shower and restroom facilities.  The Community Living Coordinator enjoys a significant amount of task variety done within a high degree of structure.  Most work will be conducted indoors in environmentally controlled conditions, however, a small percentage of work will be done outside as well.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be in agreement with Hope Ministries’ Statement of Faith and Purpose, and Core Values. 
• Must have a lifestyle that demonstrates moral and ethical adherence to the teachings of the Bible and an expressed desire to minister to those who are poor, needy and homeless.
• Able to lead others toward spiritual maturity and model Christ-like behaviors.
• Must have a good knowledge of the Scripture and an ability to apply Biblical principles to real life situations.
• Must exhibit leadership, good judgment, sensitivity, and compassion.
• Must be a person who works well with diverse groups of people, and be concerned about their needs, showing an ability to motivate and to provide tough love when appropriate.
• Must have good oral and written communication skills.
• Must be willing and able to directly supervise program participants’ drug testing through urine analysis.
• Must be able to operate Microsoft Office programs including Word and Outlook.
• Must be able to lift 40-50 pounds.
• Possesses valid driver’s license.
• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.  Associates or Bachelors degree is preferred or two years experience of working in a shelter or recovery environment with men.
