Role Summary

The Regional Training Manager provides hands-on training, education, and competency development for frontline staff in Sterile Processing (SPD), Endoscopy (ENDO) Reprocessing, and the Operating Room (OR) across assigned hospital accounts within the Central Region. This position serves as the primary educator for Surgical Solutions' St. Luke's Hospital account, dedicating the majority of time to onsite education, competency validation, onboarding, and staff development while providing regional training support to other Central Region accounts as operational needs require.

The Regional Training Manager works directly with frontline staff, leadership, Human Resources, and hospital partners to promote clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, employee development, and operational consistency. This position reports to the Regional Operations Director.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary onsite educator for the St. Luke's Sterile Processing Department.
  • Deliver hands-on training for SPD, ENDO, and OR staff, including orientation for new hires, skills refreshers, competency validation, and ongoing professional development.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing competency assessments for new and existing employees, including agency staff, and develop education plans based on identified needs.
  • Work alongside staff in SPD, ENDO, and OR environments to demonstrate and reinforce proper practices in decontamination, assembly, sterilization, instrumentation handling, case preparation, and surgical setup.
  • Observe staff during daily operations, providing real-time coaching, mentoring, corrective feedback, and recognition.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate in-service education on standard operating procedures, regulatory requirements, safety initiatives, and new equipment.
  • Support employees preparing for CRCST certification and other role-specific certifications.
  • Partner with supervisors, managers, HR, and hospital leadership to identify training needs and address performance or competency gaps.
  • Maintain competency documentation, training records, and education metrics while providing progress reports to leadership.
  • Assist with Joint Commission, AAMI, OSHA, and regulatory survey readiness by ensuring staff competencies and education remain current.
  • Act as a clinical resource for staff during daily operations by answering questions, troubleshooting challenges, and reinforcing best practices.
  • Assist with onboarding, new account implementations, site expansions, and operational transitions throughout the Central Region as needed.
  • Travel to other Central Region accounts to provide education, onboarding support, competency validation, and implementation assistance when requested.
  • Promote collaboration and communication between SPD, ENDO, OR teams, hospital leadership, and Surgical Solutions leadership to support safe, efficient patient care.
  • Provide in-service training on current and newly introduced equipment in collaboration with manufacturers.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and recommend educational solutions that improve employee performance and operational outcomes.

Necessary Skills and Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of sterile processing standards, endo reprocessing, instrumentation, and operating room protocols.
  • Ability to demonstrate technical skills and surgical setup practices directly to staff.
  • Effective communication skills, able to bridge training between SPD, ENDO and OR teams.
  • Comfortable working in high-paced, procedural environments with strict deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to build trust with staff at all levels.
  • Organized and dependable, with the ability to manage multiple site training schedules.
  • Skilled in problem-solving and adapting training to different hospital settings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and reporting.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and competency-based education.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to educate both individuals and groups.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple educational initiatives while supporting daily operations.

Qualifications

  • CRCST certification required.
  • CER/CIS/CHL certification preferred; or willingness to obtain
  • Minimum three (3) years of Sterile Processing experience, with exposure to Endoscopy Reprocessing and/or Operating Room environments preferred.
  • Previous experience training, mentoring, coaching, or educating healthcare staff required.
  • Experience developing competencies, conducting skills assessments, and facilitating education programs preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of AAMI, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Knowledge of OR video tower components preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Central Region as business needs require – up to 25%
