Recreation Specialist – Boat House Location: Kodiak, AK Pay Plan/Series/Pay Band: NF-0188-03 Salary: $25.00/hour + DOE Schedule: Full Time (30-40 hours/week) Responsibilities Assist in planning, developing, organizing, and carrying out the MWR Boat House program for active‑duty service members, dependents, retirees, and authorized civilians during the April–October season. Rig, maintain, and troubleshoot outboard and kicker engines; maintain electronic, 12‑v electrical, fuel, navigation systems, and other mechanical needs on 23’ Pacific morale boats. Support private boating, rental operations, camper/ATV trailer rentals, and resale activities. Operate vehicles and equipment—drive, trailer, wash, refuel, and perform basic maintenance on small boats, RVs, ATV trailers, and small engines; operate a 2½‑ton truck and forklift as required. Conduct routine inspections of equipment and facilities, submit maintenance/repair requests, and report hazards or needed improvements. Conduct boating‑safety orientation courses and plan special events such as classes and fishing tournaments. Assist with tsunami planning to protect Marina assets and maintain a safe, clean boating area. Serve as shift lead for up to six NAF and Active‑Duty Coast Guard staff during boating operations. During November–March, support all MWR facility managers with planning and maintenance of recreational facilities, inventory updates, and manual labor tasks using hand tools and power equipment. Provide customer service, manage financial transactions with POS and credit card systems, and assist in financial, property, safety, personnel, marketing, training, and reporting functions. Adhere to safety regulations, use required safety equipment, and promptly report workplace hazards or injuries. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Experience handling small boats and performing boat trailering operations. At least one year of experience in boat engine and systems maintenance and repair. Effective oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Valid driver’s license. Experience with basic hand tools (hammer, screwdriver) and power tools (saws, drills, etc.). Preferred Qualifications (in addition to the minimum) Demonstrated experience in planning, developing, organizing, and carrying out recreation programs. One year of experience in planning, developing, organizing, and maintaining a recreational boating program, marina operations, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Honda Marine Technician Certification. Any Marine Technician Certification.
