Commissioning Engineer, Boiler & HVAC SystemsLocation: NYC & Westchester County, NY (field-based, in-person)Job Type: Full-time, in-personIndustry: Commercial Mechanical Contracting, Heating Systems Installation and CommissioningPay: $125,000 - $140,000 base, plus incentive compensationA licensed Master Plumber and General Contractor serving NYC and Westchester is hiring a Commissioning Engineer to own startup and commissioning on its new mechanical installations, from pre-startup readiness through first fire and verified operation. Because the company self-performs its installation work, you carry that engineering all the way through to a signed-off, documented retrofit. This is a hands-on role in the mechanical room, not a desk job, with a company that's grown from 20 to over 100 employees on a deep, growing installation pipeline.ResponsibilitiesBuild the commissioning plan for each installed system during technical review, including functional tests, KPIs, and required dataReview schematics and the Sequence of Operations for HVAC, steam, hydronic, and domestic hot water systems, and raise RFIs before installationWalk installations near completion of the plumbing scope to confirm hardware, sensors, and wiring are installed and ready for startupOwn the go/no-go call on startup readiness and manage the punch list until the site is readyEnergize and start boilers, pumps, and controls, confirming proper operation of all inputs and outputsRun combustion analysis on a calibrated analyzer, recording O2, CO, stack temperature, and combustion efficiency across the firing rangeVerify safeties and interlocks, including LWCO, high-limit, gas pressure switches, flame safeguard, and proof-of-closureTroubleshoot line- and low-voltage control circuits and set up long-term test instrumentation for the commissioning phaseProve system sequencing, staging, and controls, including the company's proprietary building automation platform, perform per design (lead/lag rotation, modulation, setback/changeover schedules)Produce Commissioning Reports and Boiler Room Settings documentation for the owner and service teamRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred, or equivalent hands-on heating systems experience4+ years of hands-on experience with commercial boilers, burners, pumps, and controlsWorking knowledge of NYC steam and hydronic heating systemsComfortable working hands-on in an active mechanical roomAbility to read mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, and a written Sequence of OperationsStrong written communication skills for owner- and service-facing reportsValid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites across NYC and WestchesterOSHA SST certificationPreferred3+ years of startup and commissioning experience on boiler or heating-plant installationsUnderstanding of combustion analysis and optimizationFamiliarity with building automation systems (BAS) and remote-monitoring platformsKnowledge of Local Law 87 and Local Law 97 retro-commissioning and reporting requirementsCompensation and Benefits$125,000 - $140,000 base salary, commensurate with experience, plus incentive compensation401(k) with company matchHealth, dental, and vision insuranceHSA and FSALife insurancePaid time off and parental leaveThis is a confidential search conducted on behalf of the hiring company.
