Machine Learning and Optimization Engineer

Position Summary Samsung Austin Semiconductor is looking for an advanced machine learning engineer in our growing optimization organization supporting our rapidly expanding Central Texas fab footprint. The role requires significant academic and industry experience with machine learning for large‑scale forecasting systems. Responsibilities include developing new and refining existing forecasting models to optimize plant operations, creating first‑principles sub‑models for feature engineering, and applying strong statistical skills to isolate model improvements and effects. Python development is required, with acceptance of lower‑level languages as needed. Additional duties may involve developing future technical roadmaps, technical strategies and participating in academic outreach initiatives. Role and Responsibilities Develop and improve machine learning models for forecasting and optimization of line performance. Create first‑principles stochastic models for feature engineering. Develop predictive heuristic KPIs to drive optimization strategies. Conduct comparative statistical analysis of model performance. Plan technical roadmaps. Skills and Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, Physics, Computer Science (with significant math and statistics exposure) – Master’s or higher preferred. Experience in machine learning, statistics, stochastic systems, and graph theory. Knowledge of mixed‑integer programming a plus. Strong statistical analysis and feature engineering capabilities. Prior leadership or technical roadmap management experience preferred but not required. Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: $76,000 – $174,500, based on role, location, education, skills, and experience.
