The registered occupational therapist (OTR/L) shall be a graduate of a baccalaureate or masters occupational therapy program. The OTR/L must hold or be eligible for a license from the Board of Allied Health Professions of Massachusetts; pediatric experience in an educational setting is desirable. The OTR/L shall provide occupational therapy services to the district. These services shall include assessment, direct individual or group therapy and indirect therapy in the form of consultation and monitoring. Therapy services may include: fine-motor functioning, perceptual motor skills, activities of daily living for school related tasks, construct/monitor use of adaptive devices and supervision of a COTA if necessary. In order to meet these responsibilities, the OTR/L shall:

• Assess the student's level of functioning and need for therapy;
• Provide occupational therapy input to team for developing Individual Education Plans (IEP's);
• Teach parents, teachers, aides, or other appropriate personnel via consultation and/or in-service programs;
• Collect and record data on therapy program;
• Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of therapy using observation, data, and/or pre/post testing;
• Work cooperatively and communicate appropriately with teacher and support staff;
• Develop and adhere to daily schedule;
• Assist in the ordering of appropriate materials and equipment, use and maintain materials and equipment;
• Monitor and report student performance and progress;
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as directed;
• Complete required reports, IEP's, and other forms in a timely and acceptable manner; and
• Perform any other related task or duty at the direction of the Supervisor of Special Education.
