About the Position

Key Responsibilities

• Perform all levels of laboratory testing, including high-complexity testing.

• Evaluate, interpret, and validate laboratory test results for accuracy.

• Identify and troubleshoot inconsistent or abnormal patient results.

• Perform testing in areas including microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology, and infectious disease safety .

• Ensure proper specimen collection, suitability, processing, and testing.

• Provide laboratory medicine and LIS support to clinical and nursing staff.

• Maintain laboratory instruments and equipment and ensure proper functionality.

• Monitor and review quality control data and take corrective action when needed.

• Develop and update laboratory policies and procedures using appropriate standards.

• Assist with preparation for CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission , and other regulatory inspections.

• Review the work of MLTs and LSTs and assist with task assignments.

• Train and mentor new employees, staff, and laboratory students.

• Participate in continuing education and process improvement activities.

• Maintain appropriate laboratory inventory and supply levels.

• Assist the Laboratory Manager with competency assessments and quality initiatives.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related field .

  • Progressively responsible work experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis where applicable.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Minimum 1 year of progressive clinical laboratory experience OR 1 year of hospital internship following completion of the degree.

• Current certification as one of the following:

  • Medical Technologist (ASCP)

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP)

  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (AMT)

  • Equivalent certification from a nationally recognized credentialing agency.

• Clinical competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter.
