Milieu Therapist I - UPMC Washington

Make a difference every day with UPMC Washington’s Behavioral Health Unit. As a Milieu Therapist I, you’ll play a key role in supporting patient recovery, leading therapeutic activities, and creating a positive environment where patients feel empowered to heal and thrive. Based on internal UPMC career path guidance, the role supports therapeutic and leisure-oriented activities within the behavioral health setting.

Responsibilities:

• Attend a minimum of 1 unit based of Institute wide in-service yearly.
• Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic activity groups effectively.
• Encourage or assist patients to perform activities of daily living.
• Accompany patients to out-of-building activities and appointments.
• Document in the Medical Record according to established policies.
• Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
• Demonstrate effective milieu management skills, which promote positive patient experiences.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
• Provide clinical interventions assessed by client needs

• Coordinate patient groups and activities

• Completes 1:1 meetings with assigned patients to assess how they are currently doing
• Complete observations of patients as ordered, following all guidelines

Schedule: Rotating days, weekends and holidays. Shifts will be daylight and afternoon, and either 3 8-hour shifts or 2 12-hour shifts.
