Forklift Operator

This role is a first-shift material handling and forklift operator position in the shipping and loading area of a manufacturing plant that produces concrete blocks. You will focus on unloading trucks, staging materials in the yard, and assisting customers with loading their vehicles while safely operating forklifts and related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Unload incoming trucks safely and efficiently using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Stage blocks, pavers, bricks, and other materials in the correct storage areas within the yard.
  • Work directly with customers in the yard to locate the products they ordered and assist with loading cars, trucks, and trailers.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service during all customer interactions.
  • Operate a variety of forklifts, skid loaders, and other equipment as needed to move and load materials.
  • Handle concrete blocks and other heavy materials, including manually lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Read and use a tape measure accurately when working with materials and inventory.
  • Support general production and yard operations as needed, including tasks related to demolition, landscaping, warehouse work, construction, and concrete handling.
  • Maintain awareness of inventory locations and assist with basic inventory-related tasks in the yard.
  • Visually inspect blocks along conveyor lines to identify and report any quality issues.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with the team to meet daily production and shipping goals.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working additional hours and occasional Saturdays when required to support operational needs.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment in a busy yard environment.
  • Ability to lift and carry concrete blocks and other materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
  • General production experience, preferably in a heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Some mechanical aptitude to understand and work with equipment and tools.
  • Strong attention to detail when staging materials and inspecting product quality.
  • Ability to provide good customer service and interact professionally with customers in the yard.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • At least one year of production or heavy manufacturing experience with demonstrated job stability.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • No formal certifications required for this role.
  • Experience in warehouse, construction, concrete, demolition, or landscaping environments is beneficial.
  • Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot minor equipment issues and understand basic mechanical functions.
  • Inventory awareness and basic understanding of material storage and organization.
  • Comfort working in a loud, dusty, and outdoor industrial environment.
  • Reliability and flexibility to work longer shifts and occasional weekend hours.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and using personal protective equipment consistently.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a manufacturing facility that produces concrete blocks, with most duties performed outside in the storage and shipping yard. The environment is loud, dusty, and dirty, and involves walking along conveyor lines to inspect blocks and identify quality issues. Typical first-shift hours are Monday through Friday starting around 6:00 a.m., with shifts usually running about nine hours and some flexibility on start and finish times. Additional hours and occasional Saturday work may be required, and there is built-in overtime in the normal weekly schedule. The dress code includes jeans, a t-shirt or long-sleeve shirt, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection, all appropriate for a heavy industrial setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Holland, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
