Job Summary

Provides customer service; completes financial and legal document research, preparation and processing, and performs general office duties.

Job Specifics

Provide customer service to residents, taxpayers, and customers of Washington County by serving as a resource for homestead application assistance. Perform a variety of technical duties, including compiling records, preparing correspondence, and maintaining the tax system in compliance with county and Minnesota Department of Revenue regulations, statutes, and policies. Interpret county, state, and federal rules, regulations, and policies for customers. Effectively manage difficult and emotionally charged customer interactions with professionalism and empathy.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience with administrating the homestead exclusion property tax program, eCRV's, name change and decedent homestead research and modifier maintenance.
  • Experience providing effective, courteous, high-volume customer service to the general public, in person and over the phone.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Paid experience interpreting County, State and Federal rules, regulations, statutes and policies for customers
HOURS / DAYS:

Schedule consisting of 40 hours per week between 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday. Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.

ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE:

$20.85 - $28.34 Hourly. This position may be hired at the Senior Taxpayer Services Technician level, depending on qualifications.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Respond to customer inquiries for various legal document related processes and services.
  2. Make referrals to other departments as necessary.
  3. Answer phone call inquiries by providing information or directing calls.
  4. Review and process legal documents, applications, and forms for accuracy and completeness.
  5. Research, analyze and verify records, reports, applications and other documents.
  6. Conduct searches or communicate with representative's other divisions or government agencies.
  7. Adheres to statutes, laws, and regulations; clarify interpretations of statutes laws, and regulations.
  8. Collects, enters, scans, proofs, edits, corrects and verifies data in computer systems with or without established procedures or computer application.
  9. Processes, sorts, checks for accuracy, and files department materials, i.e., forms, reports, licenses, certificates, deeds, applications, orders, vouchers, documents, legal instruments, or other materials in accordance with established routine and policy.
  10. Process transactions, collect fees and process overpayments.
  11. Collects and records a variety of receipts and disbursements for various funds.
  12. Compiles data and calculates various financial statistical reports.
  13. Prepares memos, correspondence, forms, statistical data, reports; proofs for accuracy and makes corrections.
  14. Processes incoming and outgoing mail.
  15. Prepares, maintains and files records.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential functions: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is sedentary (sitting and/or standing) in nature performed within the Government Center or satellite offices. Lifting requirement of 15 - 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Work may require assisted lifting of equipment up to 80 pounds. Wrist and finger manipulation due to filing, compiling, calculating, or computer work. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, calculator, telephone, copy, cash register, microfiche and fax machine, and bar code machine. Additional physical/mental requirements that occur may not be listed above, but are inherent in performing the position's essential functions.

Employment Criteria

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent. Prior experience with customer service, financial reporting, and database management is preferred.
