Austin Aviation - Airport Facility Specialist

About the Role Under direct supervision this position provides advanced housekeeping, security, and facilities services throughout Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and the AUS campus. Responsibilities Provide facility maintenance, security, emergency services, general and detailed cleaning and disinfecting using heavy and specialized equipment. Operate cleaning equipment such as high lifts, scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, pressure washers, and power washers and maintain knowledge of their operation. Work with airport personnel to ensure security and safety, including facility lockdown, monitoring for security breaches, unattended packages, and suspicious persons. Evacuate customers and isolate airport facilities during emergencies such as security breaches, bad weather, and fire emergencies. Provide customer service to passengers, tenants, contractors, employees, and management. Operate City vehicles for transporting propane, material, etc. Perform administrative duties including completing forms, logs, and personal timesheets. Utilize biohazard clean‑up methods and monitor and replace biohazard syringe boxes. Perform cash handling duties and respond to calls for lost and found items. May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, and guidance to others. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of janitorial processes and procedures; FAA and TSA regulations and mandates. Knowledge of SIDA regulations, Airline Baggage Hygiene procedures. Skill in operating vehicles and janitorial heavy equipment and machinery. Skill in leadership and identifying suspicious and unusual activities. Ability to understand oral and written instructions; communicate effectively in English; train others; pass equipment assessments. Ability to communicate via two‑way radio; pass and maintain TSA and SIDA security requirements. Ability to utilize computer software and walk, stand, sit, bend, twist, climb, kneel, or crawl for periods of time. Ability to reach, stretch overhead; demonstrate repetitive hand and foot movement; grasp, squeeze, carry, lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds unassisted. Ability to work in environments with exposure to vibrations, noise, mechanical and chemical hazards, fume and odor hazards, toxic waste and material hazards, contact with blood and other potentially infectious materials. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of experience related to janitorial services, including one (1) year operating janitorial heavy equipment and machinery. Up to four (4) years of experience may substitute for education. Licenses and Certifications Valid Texas Class C Driver License within ninety (90) days of hire. Ability to pass equipment assessments and TSA/SIDA security requirements. Physical Requirements Carry, lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds unassisted. Frequently stand and walk; occasional sitting, lying, climbing stairs, ladders. Repetitive motions and vibration. Frequently reach and stretch overhead; crawl, twist. Consistently kneel, stoop, and perform repetitive hand/foot movements. Wear required personal protective equipment. Work in environments with exposure to vibrations, noise, mechanical and chemical hazards, fume and odor hazards, toxic waste and material hazards, blood and other potentially infectious materials. Work Hours and Shift Incentives Hours are 10:00p.m. – 7:00a.m.; may change according to departmental needs, including after‑hours, holidays, and weekend work. Overtime may be required. Shift differential incentive for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Position may require on‑call or call‑back responsibilities. Driver’s Requirement Must travel between various locations as part of regular duties and drive a city vehicle. Must have a Valid Texas Class C Driver License or obtain one by hire date. Must meet City of Austin Driver Record Evaluation standards (no more than three moving violations or six points within thirty‑six months). Essential Personnel This position is categorized as essential personnel and is required to come to work during emergencies or bad weather at the airport, whether scheduled or not.
