Job Summary Vice President for University Advancement at Miami University leads the advancement organization, overseeing Development, Alumni Relations, Advancement Marketing and Communications, Donor Relations and Stewardship, Office of Solutions and Innovation, and Operations. Responsible for completing the university’s $1 billion capital campaign, building the next philanthropic era, and driving sustainable revenue growth. Role and Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive, forward‑looking advancement strategy aligned with the university’s mission and strategic plan. Lead a team of approximately 140 professionals and support staff, managing an annual operating budget of about $22 million. Collaborate with senior leadership (President, Provost, Deans, Cabinet, faculty, trustees, and volunteers) to set priorities, secure buy‑in, and coordinate campus‑wide engagement. Drive the $1 billion capital campaign to its completion and establish a sustainable $100 million annual production. Design and execute data‑driven fundraising strategies, leveraging analytics to deepen engagement and expand philanthropic capacity. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and institutional donors, including major gifts at seven‑to‑nine‑figure levels. Integrate alumni relations activities across the university, increasing participation rates, giving levels, and volunteerism. Guide the President and other senior leaders in fundraising and public‑relations roles, serving as advisor and co‑strategist for transformative gifts. Support alignment of academic priorities with philanthropic opportunities, cultivating a culture of collaboration and competitive grantsmanship. Oversee development and stewardship operations, ensuring a service‑oriented, operationally efficient environment. Mentor and develop staff, fostering confidence, ownership, and a high‑performance culture. Maintain accountability and measurable impact on philanthropic revenue and institutional goals. Qualifications and Experience At least ten years of progressive fundraising and managerial experience in higher‑education advancement, preferably within a capital‑campaign environment. Advanced degree or advanced study preferred. Strong understanding of the current higher‑education landscape and ability to travel nationally and abroad. Proven track record of leading large development operations and achieving significant revenue growth. Experience using data analytics, strategic goal setting, and performance metrics to enhance fundraising outcomes. Demonstrated ability to cultivate major gifts, manage donor relations, and guide institutional leaders in public‑relations efforts. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to engage diverse stakeholders. High integrity, sound judgment, and ability to model empathy, transparency, and accountability. Comfort with ambiguity, a collaborative leadership style, and a positive, inclusive workplace focus. Understanding of foundation operations and finance.
