Heavy Equipment Mechanic

M&M Recycling is a family-owned scrap metal processing company dedicated to safety, productivity, and the highest quality standards in the recycling industry. We purchase, process, and sell both ferrous and non-ferrous metals while maintaining a culture built on teamwork, integrity, and growth. We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our operations team. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a variety of industrial and heavy equipment used in our processing yard. The ideal candidate is mechanically skilled, safety-conscious, and experienced in servicing large machinery in a demanding industrial environment. Key Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment including: Cranes with magnets and grapples Excavators Bobcats Forklifts Metal chopping machines Metal shredders Roll-off trucks, box trucks, and other fleet Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and execute timely repairs to minimize downtime. Inspect equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations. Maintain accurate maintenance logs and repair records. Collaborate with yard supervisors and operations team to prioritize repairs and maintenance tasks. Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines. Qualifications Minimum 3 years of experience as an industrial mechanic or heavy equipment technician (scrap metal or recycling industry experience preferred). Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams. Proficient with welding and fabrication repairs (preferred). Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in outdoor conditions year-round. Comfortable working around large, moving equipment and noisy environments. Benefits Competitive pay based on experience of $30 to $35.50 per hour, based on experience.
