Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN with renal experience for a night-shift position requiring at least 2 years of acute care experience.

Details

• Med/Surg/Renal unit caring for adult and geriatric patients
• Patient diagnoses include AKI, CKD, ESRD, DM, COVID+, COPD exacerbation, wound infection, PVD/PAD, GI bleed, clotted AV fistulas, and cellulitis
• Unit handles general medicine and surgical procedures such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, wound debridements, central line and dialysis access placements, and amputations
• Uses remote telemetry monitoring, wound vacs, Pyxis, SBAR, and Epic EMR
• Peritoneal dialysis managed by patient and dialysis nurse
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45-7:15
• Floating required, with agency staff floated first
• No call-in requirement

Requirements

• Active RN license, Standard or Compact, LA license in hand required
• Current certifications: ACLS and BLS
• Minimum 2 years acute care experience required, including renal experience
• Epic EMR experience required
• Skills required: BiPAP/CPAP management, nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, tracheostomy care/management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs
• Experience with heparin, insulin, and PCA medication administration
• Skilled in isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac management
• Experience with IV insulin protocols
• Experience in pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and emergency response
• Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for a general Med/Surg and renal population requiring dialysis and related interventions
• Support cardiac monitoring and emergency response as needed
• May be assigned to an Emergency Team by the unit manager during declared emergency events, with an expectation to remain onsite until relief arrives
• Orientation held five days a week
• Must reside more than 65 miles from the facility, based on driver's license address; local candidates not accepted
• Two Manager/Supervisor references (Charge RNs not accepted) required prior to starting contract, though not required for initial consideration
• Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have a one-year separation from the health system before returning as a traveler
• RTO must be disclosed on profile and discussed during interview to avoid offer rescission
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply with the required acute care experience
