THE POSITION

As a Mechanic Supervisor for the Department of Transportation, you help keep vital machinery safe, reliable, and ready for action. You will support mechanics, strengthen repair processes, and improve shop performance. This is an exciting chance to use your experience to support transportation services across the Commonwealth!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position oversees the repair and maintenance of a wide range of equipment used by the Department of Transportation. The role includes leadership, problem solving, and coordination of daily shop activities. As a Mechanic Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

• Direct Equipment Repairs: Guide mechanics in troubleshooting, as well as repairing gasoline and diesel-powered equipment
• Oversee Inspections: Monitor state vehicle inspections and verify quality assurance results
• Manage Work Processes: Review work orders, parts usage, and time charges for accuracy
• Support Problem Diagnosis: Assist staff in identifying complex equipment issues using diagnostic tools
• Ensure Shop Safety: Promote safe work practices and maintain a clean repair facility
• Lead Personnel Activities: Assign tasks, evaluate performance, and support employee development

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $59,149.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of a valid Class A or B Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the Air Brake restriction (L), supplemented by tank endorsement (N).
• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification.

Additional Requirements:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
