Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding an Addiction Medicine Physician to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx. Specifically, the Addiction Consult Service is a multidisciplinary service that provides acute substance use disorder (SUD) care to patients in Emergency Departments (EDs), Inpatient (IP) Units, SUD Walk-in Clinics, and throughout the hospital. The team is led by the Medical Directors of Addiction Services and includes physicians and nurse practitioners with addiction training, social workers, mental health clinicians, addiction counselors, peer counselors, and community health workers. The mission of the Addiction Consult Service is to improve patient access to and experience of evidence-based practices for SUD care, including medications for addiction treatment, SUD screening, brief intervention, referral to ongoing treatment (SBIRT), care coordination, harm reduction, and peer advocacy.Opportunity Details:Provide addiction care and harm reduction services to patients in the ED, IP units, and SUD Walk-In Clinic.Provide supervision of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants on the Addiction Consult Service.Collaborate with the Addiction Consult Service Clinical Supervisor and other Addiction Consult Service staff to facilitate interconnection from the acute care setting to outpatient follow-up and ongoing care.Participate in daily team huddles, regularly scheduled Addiction Consult Service staff meetings and case conferences, and departmental Grand Rounds.Evaluate and treat patients in acute withdrawal from substances, including alcohol and/or opioids.Provide ongoing medical treatment for patients with SUDs, including Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and/or Opioid Use Disorder (OUD).Review labs, EKGs, and other tests as clinically indicated and initiate referrals for follow-up care.Collaborate with hospitalists and subspecialists, primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and other medical disciplines within the hospital.Conduct suicide risk assessments (SAFE-T evaluations) in the SUD Walk-In Clinic.Participate in medical and behavioral codes, as needed.Provide opioid overdose education, naloxone training, and distribution of other harm reduction resources to patients and their friends and families.Teach and train fellows, residents, and medical students rotating on the Addiction Consult Service, as well as preparing didactic presentations, as needed.Assist medical leadership with Quality Assurance and Process Improvement projects, as needed.Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.Board Eligible or Board Certified in Addiction Medicine (ABAM).Active New York State Medical License.Active DEA Registration, including waiver to prescribe buprenorphine.At least one year of education, training, and/or experience in substance use disorder services preferred.Wages and Benefits include:Annual Base Salary: $246,000* (board eligible); $256,000* (board certified) based on 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $366,120** (board eligible) and $377,120** (board certified), which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors as set forth below:Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $55,520.Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year’s average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings.
