Regional Safety Manager - Senior Living

The Regional Safety Manager supports the Head of Risk & Safety in advancing HumanGood’s safety, emergency preparedness, safety-related regulatory compliance, and loss-prevention programs across assigned communities. The role partners with community and regional leadership to assess risk, investigate significant incidents, strengthen emergency readiness, support corrective action, and promote consistent application of organizational safety standards.

This position partners with community and regional leadership to identify and mitigate safety risks, assess compliance, investigate significant incidents, strengthen emergency readiness, and support corrective and preventive action. The Regional Safety Manager serves as a safety subject-matter resource to assigned communities and travels regularly throughout the region to conduct assessments, provide consultation and training, support investigations, and promote a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture.

Location : preferred locations include the greater Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, or Philadelphia areas. Candidates residing in other locations within our company footprint may be considered.

Compensation : Target pay range of 120K-160K depending on experience and location + performance-based bonus

Primary Duties & Essential Functions:

• Implements HumanGood safety programs, standards, priorities, and improvement initiatives across assigned communities and supports consistent application of organizational safety expectations.
• Provides consultation and practical guidance to Executive Directors, administrators, department leaders, and community safety representatives regarding resident and workplace safety, emergency preparedness, loss prevention, and related operational risks.
• Travels regularly to assigned communities to conduct safety assessments, workplace inspections, risk reviews, and other onsite evaluations and recommends appropriate preventive or corrective action.
• Partners with clinical, nursing, wellness, dining, environmental services, facilities, transportation, Human Resources, and operations leaders to identify and mitigate resident, team member, environmental, and operational safety risks.
• Conducts or supports hazard assessments, Job Hazard Analyses, ergonomic reviews, personal protective equipment assessments, and other activities designed to identify and control workplace hazards.
• Conducts or supports investigations involving significant injuries, resident-safety events, property losses, fires, security events, and other high-risk incidents; facilitates root-cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitors safety events, team member injuries, workers’ compensation trends, property losses, repeat incidents, and other regional safety data to identify patterns and recommend prevention strategies.
• Conducts safety audits and compliance reviews, identifies deficiencies, assists communities in developing remediation plans, tracks significant corrective actions through closure, and supports regulatory inspection and survey readiness.
• Supports implementation of applicable federal, state, and local safety and emergency-preparedness requirements, including OSHA, CMS, state licensing and regulatory agencies, fire authorities, and other applicable oversight organizations.
• Supports community emergency-preparedness and response programs, including emergency plans, drills and exercises, after-action reviews, response procedures, and coordination with internal and external partners.
• Provides consultation regarding fire and life safety, physical and environmental hazards, hazardous materials, workplace-violence prevention, emergency communications, contractor safety, and other safety-related risks.
• Develops and delivers safety education, training, communications, and resources for community leaders and team members and reinforces expectations for hazard, near-miss, and incident reporting.
• Reviews regional safety performance, identifies recurring or emerging risks, and provides findings, recommendations, and status updates to Risk Management & Safety and regional leadership.
• Builds effective working relationships with community and regional leaders and influences appropriate safety practices through expertise, collaboration, sound judgment, and practical recommendations.
• Maintains current knowledge of safety practices, regulatory developments, and emerging risks relevant to senior living operations and performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Decision Authority & Scope

• Serves as a regional subject-matter resource for safety, emergency preparedness, and loss-prevention matters across assigned communities.
• Independently evaluates safety conditions, incidents, audit findings, and operational risks within established organizational standards and recommends appropriate corrective or preventive action.
• Prioritizes identified risks based on severity, likelihood, recurrence, and potential organizational exposure and escalates significant or imminent hazards as appropriate.
• Provides functional guidance and influences community practices but does not independently establish enterprise safety policy or organization-wide standards.
• Coordinates regional safety initiatives and follows significant corrective actions through resolution in partnership with community and functional leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health, healthcare administration, business administration, risk management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible professional experience.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, healthcare or senior living safety, risk management, loss prevention, or a related field.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective-action activities.
• Working knowledge of occupational safety, emergency preparedness, fire and life safety, and applicable federal, state, and local safety requirements, including OSHA requirements.
• Experience supporting emergency preparedness, drills, exercises, or incident response.
• Ability to analyze safety, injury, incident, audit, and compliance information; identify trends and risks; and develop practical recommendations.
• Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills with the ability to effectively advise frontline team members, community leaders, and regional leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and locations, exercise sound judgment, and respond effectively to time-sensitive or high-risk situations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business, reporting, and safety-management systems.
• Ability to travel frequently throughout the assigned region, including overnight travel as required, and respond to significant incidents or emergencies outside normal business hours when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

• Safety experience within senior living, long-term care, healthcare, hospitality, or another regulated multi-site service environment.
• Experience supporting multiple facilities, communities, or geographic locations.
• Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), or another relevant safety or emergency-management credential.
• FEMA/NIMS/ICS or other relevant emergency-management training.
• Experience with workers’ compensation loss prevention, fire/life safety, contractor safety, and property-loss prevention.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Position requires frequent travel to HumanGood communities throughout the assigned region, including overnight travel as business needs require.
• Work is performed in office, residential, healthcare, administrative, mechanical, kitchen, maintenance, and outdoor environments.
• Requires regular walking and standing during facility inspections and the ability to navigate stairs and access operational areas reasonably necessary to evaluate safety conditions.
• May require bending, reaching, or positioning to inspect equipment, work areas, or environmental conditions.
• May occasionally be exposed to noise, weather, mechanical equipment, chemicals, infectious agents, or other conditions normally encountered in senior living and healthcare operations; appropriate safety precautions and personal protective equipment are used as required.
• Requires the ability to respond effectively to emergency or incident conditions that may involve stressful, rapidly changing, or time-sensitive circumstances.
• Occasional evening, weekend, or after-hours availability may be required in response to significant incidents or emergencies.
